Hi all, Anyone know if the new H&R excell semi auto can take a mag extension?
Is it from the illion plant?
Just wondering, prices are very good at our local Cabelas.
Knowledge of people behind the counter are not. For instance, I asked about JM pro 930 mossberge barrel length 22 or 24 on hand due to 8+1 or 9+1.
They said no shot gun made will take that many rounds. 2+1 only.
Just want to know if the new Excell will take standard mag tube extensions.

I know of no 'standard' for mag extensions - each magazine has its own thread pattern and such. So while I don't know the answer definitively, I suspect that it's 'no'.

I wonder how Remington will handle customer service on the import guns now that they've been reported to have shuttered the H&R plant...

The Excell auto is made in China. It is in the same price range as Tristar and CZ autos, which are proven to be fairly good inexpensive guns, with good warranty service if needed. I'm not saying that it is a bad gun, it may be great, but there has been several variations of the Excell auto. None of them lasted on the market very long. On a budget, I'd save a few more bucks for a Mossberg 930, especially since you are looking at mag tube extensions, etc.

Thanks for the replies. Just that our local Cabelas has em new for $249.00. Was hoping it was as good as my H&R pump. Guess I'll stay with my want for a 930.

IF this is intended for serious HD use, you might want to rethink going as cheap as you can. Might look at a Rem 1100 as well as the Mossberg - both have a plethora of accessories.

Reportedly they are Turkish, not Chinese, and accept Remington extensions but you will have extra threads that a sling adapter can take up. Saw the $259 Cabelas deal myself but some web research yielded good reviews but not much for parts.

My guess is it will work fine but have a very rough finish.

That being said Cabelas probably won't have any when you get there. They put those deals in there to get you in the door and wait in line at the gun counter. They will tell you they sold out and you will still buy ammo or other crap.

They do it all the time with their flyer ads.

Remington didn't shutter the H&R plant, they only discontinued the H&R single shot product line. Illion is still producing firearms for other brands and some of the H&R employees transitioned to other parts of the plant.

For H&R single shots, warranty and service are handled by regional Remington authorized service centers.

I have an H&R pump from illion plant. Used it in 3 gun matches here locally. Only 5+1 w/o plug. Also my HD choice.
Since I had good luck with that, I thought the excell would be a good choice as long as I could get mag tube extensions.
I still like the JM pro 24" barrel, but not quite in my budget yet.

Excell Accessories

I found this google pic of an Excell with a mag ext and a shorter barrel, so apparently they do exist. I have read that CDNN has the barrels, they don't. the 405 barrel that they claim fits, is MIA....H&R sells an Excell combo w a deer barrel, but don't sell the barrel separately.. I have heard that the Excell will accept a Rem ext tube, but haven't confirmed. The link from that pic was to Thehighroad.org, which is how I found this site...so someone on this site must know...

I bought the Excell last week at Cabela's and now the barrel/ext hunt is on. I purchased it out of curiosity based on reviews. Any info on a barrel
