I need to replace the mainspring assembly in a Mod. 622 which I recently inherited. I have a new assembly from Numrich. What is the technique for removing the retaining pin from the new part and getting it to fit between the Mainspring Guide Seat and the Hammer? The new part comes assembled and is under considerable spring tension.
The head on this part is made from a flimsy piece of nylon, which fatigued and shattered on the original without the pistol having ever been used. It is absolutely unfired & NIB. The all-steel part for the H&R Model 532 looks and measures identical. Would it be OK to use the 532 part in the 622? I would like to avoid the nylon part if possible.
Thanks for any help.

Ed,
To get the old one out - cock the hammer and insert a small pin into the hole in the guide rod to lock the spring - uncock the hammer and the old assembly will lift out - twist the top to left or right and pull the tail of the guide rod out of the hole.
To reinstall - do the opposite of the above - DO NOT remove the pin in the new assembly until you have installed the assembly and the hammer is cocked.
The steel pusher head will replace the nylon head - but be advised that the guide rod may be a slightly different length on the replacement than on the original. This has been my experience with two of the three I have replaced. Compare the old assembly rod with the new, before you attempt to install the new one. If the rods are different lengths, the best you can do is remove the head from the old one - that's easy with the crumbly nylon, then remove the head from the new one and install on the old rod (that's a bit more difficult especially with the steel - you may have to heat it a little to get it free - don't go red hot or you'll ruin the heat treatment. You'll have to take the spring off to do this, but you can recapture it later. It takes a bit of dexterity, but if I can do it, so can you. Good luck - watch the spring, don't put your eye out! Make sure you keep the "crutch" part of the pusher well lubed - put a bit of grease on it before you install the new assembly.
