Can anyone tell me if the 12 gauge H&R Pardner pump (870 knock off) is compatible with Remington 870 12 gauge parts (after market buttstocks/forend a etc)?

Thanks

Steve

Chances are the makers of the after market stuff can tell you more.

Why not just buy a 870?

Eh, it's a cheapy fixer upper. Has a couple of railed accessories already on it and rust. Perfect candidate for a Cerakote job. I may not add anything, I was just curious. If I come across a steal of a deal on a Magpul forend and/or buttstock I may add them to it.

Shot one of my buddy's yesterday. It was smooth and a pleasure to fire with an 18.5 inch barrel shooting buckshot. But I will say that it was fresh back from the factory due to a problem with the ejector or extractor, I forget what my buddy said. I think the factory may have slicked it up a bit for him, because what he got back is slicker than any 870 I've ever played with.

It's a good shotgun. As was said before, everything but the barrel is compatible with the 870. (As for "why not an 870?" The Pardner is cheaper and just as good, at least in my experience.)

I turned one into a short-barreled shotgun with a 12 inch barrel (on an ATF Form 1). Put the Magpul stock and foreend on it. It's a great little shottie for home defense.

I really doubt it went to the "factory" since the factory is in China.

I've had mine for six or seven years and have taken plenty of game with it with the included vent rib and slug barrel. My buddy has been able to build a few up with 870 parts without a problem. He even has one with a 870 barrel.(I've been told it doesn't work but he didn't have a problem)

Maybe to support American jobs? We see a LOT of folks who slam Walmart and similar for Chinese products, yet gun folks seem to cast that aside to save a few bucks.
JMO, YMMV

I would question the quality of the metal's used in the pardner pump gun.

Yes the gun shoots, but for how long, or how many rounds.

There have been postings across the net about "inexpensive" guns not lasting through one box of shells.

The H&R Pardner isn't an 870 copy. Has a different receiver and for some daft reason barrels are factory installs.

The Pardner Pump IS an 870 copy. The receiver is the same with the only difference being a squared off ejection port and a hump back. Other than a few cosmetic differences the PP is a straight clone of the 870 and all parts will interchange.
870 barrels will work but you need to make a spacer around the magazine tube because the PP has a 5-shot tube unlike the 870's 4-shot. So you need a spacer to take up the extra space between the 870 barrel's lug and the PP's endcap.

Here's a guide:

As for why H&R insists that the barrels are a factory-only install. Beats me.

How many of those postings mentioned the Pardner Pump specifically? Because there have also been postings about "expensive" guns failing too. Any and every gun design under the sun will fail, things happen. Let's please quit it with this idea that the U.S. is the only country capable of making a decent gun. Sure there's plenty of crap coming out of China, but guns are probably one of the few things they know how to make well.

When the clay target shooters start using the imports from China then I might think differently.
Untill that happens I'll bank on the real Remington 870!!

A pump action shotgun is about as simple as it gets. If the factories in China can produce complex products like Apple smartphones, laptop computers and HDTVs, I think they can figure out how to build a shotgun.

I worked in the auto industry for 8 years fixing machines that harden drive train parts chinese steel needed lab test from U.S. labs before we would use it. You can not depend on the make up of the steel to be what they say .
The one I tried file tested in all parts as harder than the Remington equivalent.
Harder isn't always better . Do you have tempered testing files or just using a standard file?

Here's why mine came home...$180 bucks, 20 ga, youth, synthetic, in stock, doesn't say rustington on the side but still has the design that has been proven repeatedly to be a fine shooter.

Chopped the barrel on one and the cutting wheel generated a lot of dark orange sparks, usually an indication of good steels.

Liability, what else? Potential headspace problems due to improper fitting or installation or what have you.

It is so nice to know your file can replace a $7,000 Rockwell testing machine.

Factory install barrels?? Give's one the extra confidence of manufacture in the pardner pump.

Especially when Mossberg makes barrels for the 870 that interchange off the shelf.

Spark testing is a very general way to check steel. You still have no idea what grade of steel you have

I'm confused about this "factory install barrels" everyone is speaking of. Mine came with a slug and field barrel that I swap out all the time without issue?

Kinda sounds like some 870 owners are feeling threatened....you Pardner owners should lighten up on them....

To each, his own....mike

Mike it is not a 870 thing, it is the quality of workmanship, and quality of materials that goes into the pardner pumps.

Chances are China has made more AK's and SKS's than anyone else, but they do not compete with any Italian, Spanish, English, or German guns made today, let alone what we make right here.
The overall quality is not there.
