I typically use W748 for my .223 loads in a 700PSS, 1:9 twist, 69gr Sierra's, 100yard target shooting.

I "found" 8 pounds of H322 at the back of a cabinet. Anyone have a load suggestion for a 1:9 twist bolt action using H322? I have to buy more bullets so a variation off the typical 69gr I shoot would be ok.

Insights appreciated.

Thanks,

I am not sure H322 is well suited for the .223 .... I understand your desire to use your H322... but ... what other rifles do you load for ?

H322 shoots superbly in my 45/70... ( just my two cents )

If you do use it , please let us know your results.

Hodgdon supplies data in the .223 for H322 with bullets from 35gr all the way up to 80gr. A lot of target shooters like H322 because they feel it aids in accuracy. I can't confirm that but it couldn't hurt to try. The Benchrest guys don't use powders they don't think are accurate.

From Hodgdon:
This Extreme Extruded powder has won more bench rest matches than all other propellants combined. It provides match grade accuracy in small and medium capacity cartridges like the 223 Remington, 6mm PPC and the 7mm TCU. As a fine extruded powder, it flows through powder measures with superb accuracy.

H322 isn't the best choice if you're looking for maximum velocity in .223, but it makes for some very accurate, easy to assemble loads. The low charge weights used also make it fairly economical.

If you want to create loads for the 223 with great accuracy my suggestion would be to try IMR-8208XBR. I think you will be amazed. Hodgdon's Benchmark is also an excellent powder for the 223. If you are shooting volume high velocity loads out of an AR, I suggest the new CFE223 powder. You can attain high velocity and the "copper fouling eraser" in the powder really works. In fact, it will erase existing copper fouling in addition to preventing it. I use my AR for coyote hunting and my go to load is IMR-8208XBR with Nosler's 50 grain ballistic tip. It shoots consistently 1/2 MOA in my Rock River Arms coyote carbine and drops a coyote like a cheap lawn chair…it literally "thrashes" them to the ground.

322 and AA2015 are similar burn rate powders. I use 23 grains of AA2015 under 55 grain bullets and have good results in my AR's and Mini's with no signs of over pressure. I don't own a chrono so I don't know the velocity but if you are looking for a plinking load I think you will be happy with 23 grains of 322. kwg

Works more than Good...Check back on the manufacturers site later, obviously they agree! Info from 36 gr to 80 gr.

I lucked out and got 16# of H322 for $150 last year. I use it with Hornady 50gr Z-Max/V-Max and it shoots bugholes when I do my part. My rifle is a 1/9 twist 24" Varmint profile Savage. For anything under 300 yards, this is my go to round since it is so cheap to shoot.
