H414 or IMR4350 suitable for .30-30 marlin 336 ?

I found several things on an internet search, but figured I would ask here as well. Just wondering if any of these powders are suitable for a .30-30 marlin 336? It's not mentioned in the ONE reloading manual I posess at this time.

I haven't started reloading yet, not until I gain some hands on experience and get a few more books, just trying to get everything together for when I do start...

Both are too slow. You need to be somewhere around 4895.

Those powders are too slow for best results in .30-30.
Lyman shows decent velocity with a compressed charge of IMR4350.
Speer has data for both but velocity is low.
Hodgdon has nothing for either and they test and distribute both brands so you have to figure they do not consider them suitable.

IMR 4895 is my choice for 30 WCF

I heard a strange report coming from the rifle range the other week, so i had to investigate. A 30-30 was being fired. When i ask what load he was shooting, i was told IMR 4350-150gr bullets. There is load data for all IMR powder here. http://stevespages.com/page8a.htm

Now I can throw out my manuals. That site has data for .223 rem / 55gr bullets loaded w/ imr 4350 & 4831. I wish they had some .223 H1000 loads. I have a lot of it and need to find a use.

thanks folks, I will be getting a few more manuals and such, just wanted to get some advice from a forum that I trust, I'd hate to get "ready" to reload and then have to sit down and wait on components ;-) getting the bits that I need now while I'm still learning will make it so that when I am ready I can just get started.

Like said above, those 2 powders are too slow for the 30-03 for good results.

The powder that was developed around the 30-03 is IMR3031 and it works well. IMR/H4895 also works well as does the new Hodgdon Leverevolution powder. I hear Benchmark and RL-10x also work well in the 30-30 too but i have not tried them.

H4198 or IMR 3031 are much better choices for 30-30.

i use 4350 imr in my 3030loads with 158 gr lead. about 3 inch groups at 100 yards. not bad and jst using what i had on hand. also using some titegroup in 762x39 with 147 gr. fmj. in a pinch you can find a load with any powder as long as you work up slow. might not be the best results but just blasting is fine. just my 2 cents

I have never used H414 but IMR-4350 is too slow for use in a 30-30. At one time DuPont did publish data for all their powders in 30-30 and perhaps the Hodgon website has some data. Personally I would use a powder such as IMR-3031 or IMR-4895.
