Hey guys I'm new here but a friend recommended this site to me.

I picked up an Egyptian Hakim in 8mm Mauser at a show for $100 last weekend but it was basically destroyed, someone decided to make it "tacticool" spray painted it black and put a scout scope on it and it was missing a mag the latter sights, and the front cage sight. after sanding down everything and putting the original birch finish on the wood but still has the dings and chips and markings on the stock from the 6 Day War in Israel.

Anyone have any information on these things? It's loud as heck and shoots accurately for not having sights just at 50 yards. I'm looking for information on it and if anyone knows where to get parts or how much one would go for.

Yeah I bought my mag from them but they didn't have all the components I need to fix the sights. Do you have any experience with a gun like this?

A little off topic, but be careful firing surplus 8mm in that rifle. Some of the higher quality surplus is probably just fine but I'd be nervous firing 1950s Yugo (for example) in something other than a Mauser.

Yeah I only shot one mag through and it was new production. I was worried about that as well shooting surplus is there any clean surplus I can find some Romanian but that's about it where do you guys get 8mm Mauser ammo?

I don't have any personal knowledge of the Hakim, only what I read. It is based on the Swedish Ljungman automatic rifle ag m/42, but I doubt any components would be the same. That model is also hard to find.
Treat all surplus 8mm ammo as corrosive, although some advertise it as "lightly corrosive", that's BS, as it's either corrosive or not. You need to clean the rifle and the gas system if you use surplus.
Prvi-Partizan and Wolf and others make good, inexpensive commercial ammo, and the boxer primed brass can be reloaded, if you're into that.

Here's a site with a listing of 8mm ammo.

I shoot all manner of surplus through my Hakim...it eats everything. Do use the gas system, I suggest buying a large quantity of the ammo you want to use and set up the gas system for it. You set the gas by opening it fully then closing it a click at a time till it functions 100%. 25 round magazines can easily be made from MG-13 magazines btw.

Hakim parts show up on gunbroker pretty regularly and right now there are scout scope mounts on Ebay for it. Also there is a complete rear sight and base on Gunbroker

here is a great online manual...

and another that has how to adjust the gas system...

I am going to be doing some experimenting on mine regarding the scope mount. The one on it now I cobbled together making a lot of it myself. I bought my Hakim back when they were 70 bucks for excellent condition guns and the AK scopes mounts were unheard of. I am going to try an AK mounting plate with a height adjustable mount http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D9L96Y/ref=ox_ya_os_product and see if I can clear the cover and center the scope over the bore...I think it will work fine.

The Hakim is a great tool for clearing obnoxious people of the shooting bench...the muzzle blast to the sides from that comp is tremendous.

Someone had the scope mount on this but took it off so it just has empty holes on the side it looks bubba rigged but hey the price was right and it was fun to shoot.

I had some 50s Yugo explode in a Kar 98K, do not use that stuff in a semi-auto!

Yeah I saw that too this morning, Right now actually I'm trying to bubba-rig my friends old latter sights from his Mosin. Turned his into a scout rifle that might be able to work and it would be in numbers I can read. I need to find a cage sight next.
