I've found a super deal for any of you who are contemplating some new iron sights on your AR 15 or on your next build project. It goes like this.

My preferred sighting system on my AR 15's is a flat-top upper receiver topped with a Stand Alone Adjustable Tactical rear sight such as the two offered by RRA and LMT. These are basically government style carry handle sights without the carry handle. They are not folding BUIS. The RRA unit is $110 and the LMT unit is $119. I have owned two of each and hold them in equal esteem.

Being your basic destitute retiree, and after shopping around for some time I found a super deal on the LMT unit at Botach Tactical in Los Angeles for $49.95, including shipping. (http://www.botachtactical.com/lmtrebaupirs.html) But I also found that this vendor has a long standing reputation for collecting for merchandise that is actually back ordered and not telling the customer about it up front, resulting in very long waits for the desired products. There is also a complaint history of poor customer service. However, I also found a good amount of information indicating that the company has been doing everything possible to correct these problems in the recent past, so I decided to take a chance on them. For less than half price plus free shipping, what the heck?

On the Wednesday preceding Thanksgiving I phoned in my order on their toll free line (888-344-5145) late in the day. I immediately received an email confirmation of the order and the funds were charged to my account at that time as well. Early in the morning of the following Monday I received an emailed shipping notice with tracking number, and the sight arrived two days later. So they shipped it on the second working day after I ordered it. That isn't bad at all.

Comparing the new sight to the identical unit on a brand new LMT rifle I just bought, (well, almost destitute :D) I found it to be the identical same sight except that the one from Botach was a bit darker in color and had an absolutely flat finish on it, whereas the one provided on my new rifle has just a tiny bit of a sheen on it. Everything on the sight from Botach checked out just fine. Here is a photo of the different sights. The one on the right is the Botach-supplied unit, while the one on the left came on the LMT carbine it is seen residing on.

So if you're looking for such a sight at less than half price, this is a good way to go. However, you might want to call them first and make sure the sight is actually in stock, just to prevent any disappointment. I have also had this problem most of the time I have ever dealt with Optics Planet and a couple of other vendors, so I hardly think Botach invented the problem, but better safe than sorry. FWIW.
