Hi all, just purchased the above from Brownell's. Going to try to install myself, but nervous because 1st time and I'm all thumbs. Any advise or comments/tips regarding an install would be greatly appreciated. I recently purchased new a 22/45 lite and 22/45 target. The Lite's stock trigger is quite good, but the target trigger is not nearly as nice. I'm hoping that the kit above will bring the target trigger to the same level as my Lite. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and Merry Christmas!

Who made the kit? What parts comprise it? I can tell you what I did, but first need to know what you're starting with.

It's the Volquartsen
The heart of the Volquartsen kit is the sear, and it's available separately.

I personally don't like the skeletonized hammer. It supposedly gives faster lock time, but at the cost of a lighter strike. I prefer the standard weight strike for reliability.

Of course. you already bought the kit so you might as well go ahead and make the most of it.

The key to getting a better trigger pull in the Mark IV is to get rid of that pesky magazine disconnect.

So what you're saying is I can just replace the sear and leave the rest of the lower stock? I have no problem doing that if it improves the trigger close to the stock Lite trigger.

I've done a MK IV and a MK III and had no problems with the results. They turn a not very good rigger into a great one. The sear is the tricky part as it's slicker than thin oil on goose poop. A pair of good tweezers are a great help in getting the little boogers where you want them.

I havent done one in years but remember them being simple and hard to mess up. Nothing tricky like some guns. I did my 22/45 last and that was 2005 or so. I did it and a 10-22 the same day. If you can field strip and re-assemble a working mk series ruger then you can probably fix anything on it.

It's a bit more complicated than that. Getting rid of the magazine disconnector means either changing the hammer, or adding spacers. The simplest way I've found to do it is just to install a Mark II hammer. A Mark II hammer plus a Volquartsen sear will solve 90% of your problem.

I contacted Volquartsen concerning the light strike. Here's their reply (excellent customer service). So with that info I'll install the entire kit.

"We originally had a light hit issue with our Accurizing Kits but that had been remedied prior to the VC4HSK being offered so you should be good"

The first time you take the frame apart will be super awkward. My words of advice are to go slow, pay attention to part relationships (take pictures if necessary), and don't drop any of the parts. Use a slave pin to help align everything when reassembling.
