Yesterday I bought a Colt Cobra, that was made in 1952 and I simply love the gun. It has a Tyler T grip and a trigger shoe.

I would like to add a hammer shroud, however, I am not too keen on havint it drilled and tapped. Its not that I plan on selling it, I just hate the thought of changing the gun permenently.
I am considering using clear silicon cault to attach the item to the frame. It creates a stongbond, but it has "give" so it won't crack. It may not stick, but I think it is worth a try.

Mu concern is that the stuff gives off a vinigar smell as it is curing and I am worried it might harm the finish of the gun.

Any thoughts on the matter?

During routine qualification back in the 50's an FBI agent coworker of my brother's found his Colt DS wouldn't fire because the shroud was binding the hammer. If this is a self defense gun, check it regularly for function.

Thanks everyone

I have decided to try the loctite idea. I will check the fit of the piece and see if there is a sufficent engagement surface.

Just remember, if this is a CCW gun, you're literally going to be trusting your life to some adhesive.

If the shroud comes loose, you could get yourself killed.

I recently went down the same road, and bought a Waller shroud for my Dick Special. I finally had it drilled and tapped, but got a set of 4-40 filler screws just in case i wanted to tale the shroud off.

I wouldn't trust glue on a smooth surface.
