Hello, i was cycleing the action when the hammer kinda slipped off my thumb, when i tried the pull the hammer back again it was locked, i tried several times but no go, so i disassembled the gun and found the hand broken in half, the littlle spring just fell out, i have a late 70,s vintage pietta 1851 with a round barrel on display and decided to do a little experimenting and disassembled the old 1851 and installed the old hammer and hand in the new civilian, well to my amazment it works perfectly, timing is spot on trigger pull is nice and smooth [2lbs], boy did i get lucky, i am going to order another hand from vti [12 bucks including shipping], to install in the old wall hanger or should i get the whole kit from cabelas for 41 bucks? pghrich

If the revolver-in-question is a wall hanger, kept for display... Why spend $41 when $12 will do?

In fact, why spend anything at all?

just a suggestion

I would look at Dixie also, I found thier pricing on a few of my "spares" purchases to be much better than "competitive".
And since you have two guns using the same parts I would seriously consider buying two of the "hand"s. That little flat spring is the most often to fail part of these guns.
While your at it I would get a spare bolt/trigger spring.

When I got my 51 I discovered the hand was to short (I think) anyway the problem I had (out of the box even)required a hand replacement and I got me one from Dixie..A little hand filing (and a lot of putting it together and taking it apart lol) and it works like a charm..

Mine (Pietta brass frame 44) came new the same way. A few punch blows about midsection on the hand stretched it enough to get it in time. It's kinda wasp waisted now, but, so far it's been holding up ok. I went ahead and ordered a new hand anyway in case that one gave up on me.
