Woman arrested with Handgun at Weapons Screening Checkpoint in Downtown L.A. Courthouse

A handgun was discovered by Sheriff’s Department security personnel working at a weapons screening checkpoint in a downtown court building Wednesday. A sheriff’s security assistant noticed a gun in her briefcase. She was detained, then arrested by sheriff’s deputies. The gun was a Smith and Wesson 2 inch revolver, loaded with five rounds of blanks. Suspect was arrested for felony possession of a firearm in a courthouse (or state building). She is being held on $50,000.00 bail.

Seems a little steep for blanks. But then, who knows what her intentions were.

And then there's the S&W that will end up in a furnace or the Pacific.

Officials seem to be grumpy.

The charge seems to be violation of PC 171b which says it is
a public offense
punishable by imprisonment in a county jail for not more than one
year, or in the state prison
California calls those "wobblers" - they may be charged either as misdemeanors or felonies.

Mere inclusion of a firearm in a news article does not mean it's on-topic here ...it's not like we're going to discuss which blank-loaded j-frame to bring to courthouses, right?
