Just about every mag I've read devotes lots of space to "tactical" & "combat" because that's what's hot right now (note how every gun these days has rails to attach lights, lasers, ginzu throwing-star launchers, etc). They get most of their $$ from advertising, not subscriptions, and gun manufacturers are their biggest advertisers. Therefore, most of their stories will be about these companies latest products. That said, American Handgunner is always pretty enjoyable for me. It seems to have a little less of the obvious corporate butt-kissing as some other mags, incorporates a lot of humor, & has really experienced & knowledgeable writers (Ayoob, Smith, Taffin, Venturino, etc.). They even own up when they make mistakes sometimes. The only others I have much experience with is Handgunner and Combat Handguns. Anyone else know of any other good ones? All have their high & low points. The main thing is to learn to decipher gun mag "terminology", which comes with practice. (surely someone has posted something on here about how to do this? Or a glossary of gunwriter slang definitions?) Things like "acceptable combat accuracy" means it didn't shoot tight groups. "The sights were fairly well regulated" means you aim 3-4 inches away from where you want the bullets to actually hit. "After a breaking-in period, this gun should be a solid performer" means it jammed a lot. Things like that.
