Hi:

I have found these three scopes for consideration to mount on a Ruger MkIII Hunter .22LR pistol. I would like to shoot dimes at 25 yds. and hit targets in the 50-100 yd. range.

Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x32mm seems to be about the best. It's available for $550.

Burris 2-7x32mm is of similar specs. It's available on sale for $289!!!

Simmons ProHunter 2-6x32mm is available for $180.

I have never used a scope before. I can afford the Leupold if I really want to. But if the Burris is 90% as good, it seems like a steal.

Then again, is the Simmons in a completely different league, or will it be nearly as good as the others?

Thanks for input on these scopes.

Good day!

I have that Simmons scope on my Mark III Hunter, and I think it works great. Holds its zero and has clear glass. I think you can even do better on the price than $180. I think I paid more like $120 for mine just a couple of months ago. I got it from Midway, and I used a 10 dollar coupon from them.

Leupold pistol scope

Got one on my High Standard 9shot 22LR revolver. The pistol had fixed sights and 4" barrel and couldn't hit target very well. Got a used Leupold from a friend cheap (think $75), and had a gunsmith drill and tap the top strap. Now the pistol can hit 12oz soda cans regularly at 100 yards using a rest.

Yes, the scope really helps. I got a $3 holster at a gun show and cut a slot for the scoped pistol to fit. Have a boot lace around the grip and my neck for shooting... push the pistol forward until the string is tight and the gun is much steadier. Give it a try.

Leupold scopes have a lifetime warranty, so if a used one is bad, just get it fixed free + shipping.
