working on a plastic version

Just to highlight this from a previous reply:
I am working on a plastic version of the HandgunStack.

Thicker would of been nicer but they said thick coatings don't hold up.

The guys I worked with dipped the items and then baked it. I think they dipped it a few times and I was able to get @1/8" thick or maybe more. I do know that at that thickness it was very tough and I couldn't get it off. I even used a knife and ended up giving up (one coating was really thick but had runs in it, couldn't salvage the piece). It might just be the company your using.

All it takes is money

Or time to do it yourself. Both options are easier said than done! My job doesn't leave alot of time for finishing the project up, oh well maybe someday.

Good Luck with your idea

plastic II

Well my first estimate for a plastic version was cost prohibitive at a prototype level.

$22K for tooling and each unit was also very expensive in low volume.

That technology is still interesting and when I get back from vacation I will continue to research it but it's not going to work for the first company I tried.

I did not have a good feeling dealing with this company but no one else I contacted would work with anything close to 45 inches long. Yes the coating is very tough, hard to remove, but could be sliced with a knife, or a front sight if you were not careful.

More research required.
