I am a big believer in trainning, and trainning hard, and i love to do it and soon want to attend the TDI ohio level 1-3 handgun course and later on do the other levels as well. but i would also like to get my wife to a trainning class, but she isn't all into shooting and maybe has fired 100rds in her life in various weapons, so the 600rds a day at tdi isn't her thing. she would rather shoot 10rds and read a jane feather book.

so i ask is there any where that is female oriented, where there is shooting but not to the lenghts of some of the other classes? preferably on the east coast as that is easiest to access for us in the Army.

i know i could teach her alot but sometimes it is better to get teachig from other people. sometimes family isn't the best people to conduct trainning. thats the main reason i want her to go to a trainning class or two.

i saw an add for gunsite female class but that isn't doable for us, it's all the way in Arizona. any sugestions would be much appreciated. thanks to all.

Where are you at? That would help. It shouldn't be that hard to find an instructor locallly who's good with new female shooters.

I've done the TDI Handgun 1-3.

It's worth the money plus some. The staff go the extra mile for students who have a hard time and the women who were in my class last year seemed to really enjoy it.

The round count they give is based on a high-cap blaster with a trigger happy operator. I shoot a single stack and came away with several hundred rounds left over, even after stepping up my round count the last day. Your wife can shoot all the evolutions without burning through the 1,800 rounds.

Another option would be to do the first two days, Handgun 1-2. This gives you all the "book learnin'", as day three is a live fire shoot house, using cornering and clearing techniques learned the previous two days. I'm doing that this year, taking my Dad down there at the end of April for 1-2 to get his CCW permit.

For the money, I don't think you can beat TDI. I was going to go for Handgun 4-5 this year, but chose to go with my Dad this year.

i am in located in georgia but a trip to ohio wouldn't be a big deal i used to drive from kansas to north carolina all the time when i was on leave.

1911guy, thanks for the review sounds like a good time and a great learning experience.i plan to do the course asap, and can't wait. sounds good, so you don't have to shoot all those rds! ok sounds good for her i wouldn't want her to get burnt out. for me though i would love to shoot 1800rds + in a 3 day period! thanks again for the advice and review it is much appreciated.

I would recommend Vicki Farnam with DTI. She's co-authored several books on the subject of training women, and I had a chance to hear her speak about the matter at some length during a class last year.

DTI's 2007 schedule currently shows Women's Defensive Handgun classes in California and Indiana:

Second for Vicki Farnam. She'll come to Pennsylvania with John when he teaches a class, as well. She's been known to even go as far as pull out the women students from a class John's teaching and go off on their own to do something more appropriate for her/their needs.

Call the Farnam's and ask. They'll even come to you if you have enough students lined up and a facility to host the training.
