So im about to go camping and hiking in the Daniel Boone National Forest in the coming weeks. I was wondering if any of you Kentucky guys know the gun policy governing this particular forest. Specifically i would like to take my Ruger .357 Security Six "just in case" since i imagine we will be out of cell phone range and help. Any help would be appreciated.

Fireworks and Firearms:

Use of fireworks or other explosives is prohibited within campgrounds and other recreation sites.
Firing a gun is not allowed: (1) in or within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site, or occupied area; (2) across or on a road or body of water; or (3) in any circumstance whereby any person may be injured or property damaged.

Don't know if this helps, but:

From http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/gwj/general_info/

"Fireworks and Firearms:
Firing a gun is not allowed a) in or within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site, or occupied area, b) across on on a road orbody of water, c) in any circumstance whereby any person may be injured or property damaged."

The Nat'l Forests in Eastern KY & Southwestern VA have plenty of shooting ranges, so doubt a handgun would be a problem. The page above says nothing about handguns, but calling to ask might be a good idea. (859) 745-3100.

I was just wondering if someone had personal experience with it already. Thanks guys I will definately give them a call tomorrow although i still dont plan to discharge it.
