on gunbroker i found a new 20ga gun for use on my daughters hs trap team. it was described as the stevens 555 compact trap model with the specs showing a 26" barrel and 13.75" length of pull. unfortunately, after paying for the shipping, tax and transfer, i have my daughter shoulder the gun at home and realize it rides much like my 12ga on her..... they sent me a full size 20ga, with 30" barrel, and almost 15" lop..... sigh...... i have sent the dealer a message, so hopefully i can get this exchanged, but should i also ask that they pay for shipping and transfer fees?

This is why nearly ever online retailer says to inspect the firearm before completing the Form 4473 and leaving the transfer dealers premises. If your seller has such a policy you may e out of luck.
But......its likely few people carry a tape measure in their pocket. If the box label says "30 bbl" then you could have caught that immediately.

If the box was mismarked.....thats on the manufacturer and the seller should replace it, bearing cost of return shipping.

I doubt the seller will refund your transfer fee, they have no control over that.

Yes.
If you can clearly demonstrate that the item you received is significantly different from the one offered and advertised, the deal is null and void with the responsibility being entirely on the seller. Of course , it would have been best if you had made these discoveries prior to transfer; if I am the seller I am reluctant to compensate for that. Shipping - that should be on the seller.

You are about to find out how much integrity that seller has.

the box only says "mod stevens 555 20ga"...... and the only notice refusing payment of costs is regarding illegal, from local regs, firearm returns....

yes, i am waiting for the reply to my message..... i am hoping that they have they the correct model for an exchange, as my daughter was looking forward to having a gun sized for her frame.....

Keep us posted. I am hoping the seller did something simply stupid like grab the wrong box off their online sales shelf. And sent you the full size shotgun instead of the advertised youth size. Some retailers still have that integrity to make it right, but you can't bet on it. The first and so far only firearm I ever ordered online was the wrong one. I caught it at the FFL before the transfer. The two FFLS worked it out and I got the correct firearm that I paid for, it just took longer than a typical transfer.

This is why you pay with a credit card. If what they sent you is clearly different than what you ordered and you have proof of it then give them a few days but only a few days to make it right. If they do not, then file a complaint with your CC company and let them get your money back.
Also yes if its the wrong gun then they should cover shipping, you are out of luck on your transfer fee because that is between you and your dealer and your local dealer did nothing wrong.

ok.... the seller has said that he will reimburse me...... he has had the gun in his possession for a couple of weeks now and after a message from me last week has said he will credit me shortly..... still waiting on that.....
