I just got back from a trip to the range with my new Auto-Ordance Model 1911A1 which I picked up, cleaned and lubed yesterday. 100 rounds of Winchester White Box 230 grain ball down range. As solid, smooth and accurate as any gun I've ever shot. I know that Auto-Ordnance had a "sketchy" reputation back in the Numrich days, but the products under Kahr ownership are a whole different kettle of fish.

Congrats! Pictures...

Any reason why you chose that over the ATI, RIA Tisas ao any other 1911's of the same price range?

Pictures? I can operate a camera. I can (barely) operate a computer. I can't seem to put the two together! ;)

My main reasons for choosing the Auto-Ordnance over the others in its price range are the fact that it is actually made in the USA (assuming Mass is still a member) and the authenticity of it. Granted, it has the Colt Series 80 firing pin safety, a slightly enlarged ejection port, and the longer trigger (a la the 1911), and an "in the white" barrel hood, but otherwise it's a spot-on 1911A1. (Maybe a 1911A1.1!)

I picked up one of these a few years back. SN XXXX. This thing has amaized me! Some guy had put a match barrel/bushing and trigger on it. I polished rail and fitted slide a little. It will shoot with any hard ball gun I ever had.

Congrats! :)

Were you using the factory magazine?
Actually, I used the factory magazine as well as seven USGI magazines which I had purchased off eBay. (I was ready for my 1911A1 when she arrived! ;) ) I had disassembled, cleaned and very, very lightly lubed all of them. All eight worked perfectly.

Sounds like you got a good gun. You can remove the series 80 plunger, and get a spacer to make it a series 70 for just a few bucks and a little time, can be restored to series 80 if you want.

Yeah, I'm thinking that I might do that when it comes time to yank the whole thing out of there for a cleaning. Thanks, Fred.
