had my 227 for for 2 1/2 yrs. never did shoot it as well my 1911. but hey, i finally had a sig and a 10 rounder to boot. i better learn how to shoot it.

i had a tendency to hit low and to the left with it especially if i hadn't shot it in a while. at 25 yrds i was hit or miss with a 10 inch gong .last trip i hardly hit it at all. when i used to practice with it more most of my hits will be on the left half of the gong. im sure the gun is inherently accurate but i realized the grip was too fat for me and the long trigger pull with the break all the way to the rear contributes to me shooting left and maybe the sights.

i spoke to one of the gun shop regulars and he offered to trade one of his 220s for my 227 as he's looking for a 3rd 227.
why he needs 3 i don't know.

finally had a chance to take it to the range after cleaned and lubed, of course.. the grip does suit me better. it also ame with the short reset trigger which my 227 didn't have. used 2 loads 230 plated xtreme and 200 gr lswc. didn't have problems feeding the 200 swc.

i does shoot slightly low for me but easily adjusted for . after 8 mags set up the 9 inch gong at 25 yrds. very consistent hits but i do have to hold higher. seems to have less recoil compared to the 227 with the same loads. that trigger with the short reset is much better than the stock trigger on the 227.... i love it!

the targets are 16 rds each at 10 yrds. left was 200 swc mags 7 and 8. right was 230 rn mags mags 5 and 6. it was shooting low for me so raised the front sight 1/4 above the rear sight(this way still could see the target). i still dont shoot it as well as my 1911s but way better than the 227. i shot 50 swc and 130 rds of 230 rn.

Sounds like you did alright with your trade. I had a Browning BDA in .45 (a.k.a. SIG P220), and side by side it had no problem keeping it close in terms of accuracy with a Colt Gold Cup.

i guess i should learn newer is not necessarily better

i got caught up in the 10 rds vs 8 rds capacity albeit at the expense of a fatter grip... but hey its practically the same grip as the 226! nwver having owned a 226 maybe the grip wouldnt have worked for me too.

its amazing how the recoil felt so much less in the 220 compared to the 227 with same loads.

I did the exact opposite but partly for the same reason: my larger than average hand was a better fit on the Model 227 (even with the E2 grip-feels exactly the same as the grip on my SIG Model 226) than it was on my Model 220. The extra round capacity of the Model 227 was icing on the cake so a switch was made.

i do think the thick boxy grip is why it shoots that way for me plus the long trigger pull that breaks all the way to the rear.

the other one had a srt. i dont know what would have happened if i replaced the trigger with an srt(turns out only 40 bucks from midway)

the recoil is more surprising for me. again must have something to do with the grip.

I found an excellent condition W. German P220 at a pawnshop this weekend for $550. Bought it and shot it Sunday. Hands down the best DA/SA trigger I've ever come across. Felt recoil was minimal and my targets looked like royal's (though at 7 yards). I'm impressed.
