The market penetration of the P-3AT is now very significant, especially in Southern states where concealability is a big concern. Some carry it with FMJ, some with JHP, but has anyone actually had to use it in a self defence scenario ?

I know of only one shooting with the P32, I don't know what the ammo was but since it was in a trailer home, I'm guessing plain FMJ (no offence intended). The shot was to the neck at a distance of about 4 feet and was an instant one shot stop. So much for the puny .32ACP.

Anyone know if the P-3AT has earned its spurs yet.

Thanks

I don't know specifically about the P3AT, but the .380 cartridge is a popular round and has been around for nearly a century. In comparison to service pistol cartridges (9mm, .40, 45, 10mm, .357 Magnum, etc) it is relatively wink, and often belittled by the shooting community, but it has put it's fair share of strong men in the dirt.

Haven't come across verifiable cases meself.

To my amateur mind, the potential problem with the P3AT is its uber-short barrel. Some personal-defense .380 bullets (HP, JHP, PB) may have been designed to mushroom properly within a velocity range attainable with then-typical barrel lengths, of 3.5 to 4 inches. Often, the manufacturers' claims for cartridge performance will include the test barrel length used, and it's quite rare to find a P3AT-length barrel cited. If you stack FMJ's in the mag, it's not that big a deal.

KT enthusiasts fortunately HAVE chrono'ed, and in infrequent cases expansion-tested (in various media), some cartridges out of their P3AT's. ktog and ktrange probably have a few threads on such.

Self defense against a human attacker?? nope never heard of one..

have heard of one being used to dispatch a mongrel that had gotten to "Frisky" for his own good...3 shots=DRT...

Mine only goes click after I have emptied it...through prolly 600-800 rounds, it has not failed me...
