Glock, XD, M&P or What?

No offense, because I'm sure they are great handguns, but I think the M&Ps are the funkiest lookin handguns made recently. Except for that compact one above, which is kinda cool. I guess it is the 1911 in me and the Smith 66 looks lover in me but man....those things are plug ugly.

Which reminds me, I once made a comment at a gun counter about glocks being ugly and it almost started a fight! And, I once said something about a gun shooting great but I wouldn't buy one because it was ugly and my girlfreind laughed that I wouldn't own an ugly gun!

"I've owned a Glock an XD and a M&P. Personally of all three I like the M&P the best, it fits my hand best and it s comfortable to shoot, and like I said earlier I've gone 500rds so far without a single issue so I have no resaon to complain"

Just because you "like" the M&P better does not make it better. It only means YOU like it better.

It still has no clear advantage over the Glock or XD.

And 500 rounds is not a test of a carry gun. A Jennings will hold up for 500 rounds.

"Sounds like youre trying to start a "hate" thread"

I don't hate the M&P. In fact I like them. I enjoy shooting them. I shoot them as well as anything else.

I only stated the FACT that they have no advantage over the Glock or XD that would make then a clear better choice.

You could say the M&P is a better gun than a HighPoint and be 100% correct because the M&P has CLEAR advantages over the HP in quality reliability and safety.

Just because I traded in my Glock for the M&P does not mean that I think the Glock is not a good gun. It has been around too long and gone through way too much testing to say anything else other than it is a good gun!! The M&P simply fit my hand better and I shoot it better.
IMHO, they are all good guns. Just find the one that works best for you.

If I was going to dedicate one gun for IDPA, I'd get a 17c because I shoot 9mm better & faster than the 40 and the 'c' versions of the Glocks seem like game guns out of box...if the 34 is available in a 'c' version, I'd get that ;)

Go with Glock. Gunny likes them and I like them too. If it's working for you ad you shoot it well stick with what works best for you.

And 500 rounds is not a test of a carry gun. A Jennings will hold up for 500 rounds.

Never said that its was, all I said was SO FAR it has been problem free, what's unclear about that? I've had several guns that have jamed within 500rds and they were much more expensive than Jennings, case-in-point the first generation S&W Sigma I owned. IMO the M&P is reliable enough for carry, if you have to put 1000, 2000, 10000 rounds or whatever through your guns before you qulify them as carry guns thats cool, everyone makes their own call on the issue, for me 500rds is acceptable for a gun I've only owned a month, if it starts having problems after a few thousand rounds, then I can always go back to carrying the Glock.:D

Also read through all the posts on this thread, no one has stated that the M&P is better than a Glock or XD, people have only said they like it more. But I dissagree that the M&P doesn't have advantages over the Glock and XD to the individual shooting it. All three guns are very different in feel, just because mechanically they are all reliable and similar doesn't mean they all "feel" the same. For ME the feel of the M&P is more comfortable than the Glock or XD, no one is saying one is "better" than the other, its all opinions here.

The other guns are good but they're not Glocks. The Glock 19 is the best 9mm in the world. I truly believe that. I just purchased one and it has replaced my G26 as my primary carry. I can't believe I waited this long to get one. However, with this being said, I always recommend a person get what works for them. The sad part is that whatever works for someone else may not be as good as a Glock.

Just to repeat what has been said several times, get the one you feel most comfortable shooting. I've got an M&P9 because it felt better than the Glock and XD. It has fired everything I've fed it and seems to shoot where I'm really pointing it. If I do my part, it will do some serious chewing on the 10-ring at 15 yards. When I don't do my part, it does a fine immitation of a 9mm shotgun. I'm willing to bet the Glock and XD would have the same tendencies.

I was once told somthing that I thought was good advice. 1) pick a caliber you like and will shoot. Don't pick it cause your buddies say it is the best. You decide what will suit you. 2) Pick a gun you will carry all the time. What size do you want. Pocket gun? Hip Gun? 3) "Fondle it". Pick a gun that feels good in your hand. If your shooting alot like you should. You want a gun to feel good in your hand.

They make different cars cause people have different likes. ( EX: I love Fords, or Dodge, while you think they are total junk and woud never buy one.) Pistols are pretty much the same. (Just because I think that the XD is the greatest, doesn't mean it is. And yes, this goes for Glocks too. Sorry guys.)

Do the research. Read, read some more. And then ask questions. Then go and handle them. If you can, find someone that has one and try to shoot it ahead of time. (this is tough sometimes). But when it all comes down to it. GET WHAT YOU REALLY WANT AND NOT WHAT YOUR BUDDY TELLS YOU, YOU SHOULD BE SHOOTING. (Hey, he might drive a Ford!)

While I prefer the XD, if you're familiar with GLOCKs I'd look into either the G34 or G17 as they would be cheaper to feed than the G23 unless you reload.
