Has AirSoft gone too far?

The whole point of airsoft is realistic weapons, it's stupid to legislate them into being completely orange, red, etc. Screw that, people would just paint them anyway. They are real looking because that is what people want, I don't want a goofy looking space-gun, if I did I could play paintball with the other "X-games" jackasses... Part of the problem though is people assume these are children's toys. I do not believe parents should be buying these for their rugrats and letting them run free with them through the neighborhood. Because of how realistic they look, and because they could cause eye injuries they definitely are not for young children.

Anyway, I just got my Colt M733 in from WGC, and it is very badass. Can't wait for our next match so I can try it out in "combat". Mine came with a cheap orange plastic flashhider on the gun, and the original flashider in the package. You can guess how long it took me to unscrew the ugly one and put the correct one back on... Only problem is now I really need a real Bushy M4gery or something, I had previously been resisting this content with my AKs and other weapons, but now I must have a AR...

Coincidentally, we did have the cops "bust" us once. We were playing on county owned land, technically trespassing (and we knew it). Someone called, and the cops showed up to run us off. They loved the airsoft weapons, thought they were really cool. We now play on private land to avoid future problems.

All that said I think these airsoft miniguns, saws, etc are completely ridiculous. Especially for the price they want to sell them for. ***. Regular airsoft is bad enough for $250-$300 for a electric rifle, but that is at least tolerable...

I need to echo OEF_VET's sentiment. Airsoft looks REALLY fun, but I need to get the real steel thats on my wishlist first, or at least I need to be sure that the real steel will stay available if I decide to divert some money to airsoft.

PS: Tamara, you must be the coolest neighbor EVER! :)

if memory serves correctly in 1987 a RCMP officer shot and killed a student at the Univercity of British Columbia when the student pointed, then refused to lower, a Lazer tag "gun" at said Mountie.

I'm sure this is not the only case. but it's not a case of the gun looking real, it's a case of the person being stupid. not every cop is going to know what every gun looks like.

I don't see the logic for making Airsoft guns orange or unrealistic. People with Twix bars, table legs and cell phones are shot by police officers and people. Any firearm shaped toy or thing would likely get the same results.

Even if they weren't that much like weapons in the hands of stupid people no matter what you do to the product they will still be stupid people. And they will likely still get hurt or killed.

It would be better if people were to take up target shooting instead of playing airsoft.

Smallbore target rifle and bullseye pistol would be great for the masses.

In my experiance the people that like Airsoft ARE target shooters or shooters in general. Your milage may vary of course. Airsoft appeals to those of us who like to shoot at each other, without killing each other. :D

Tommy Gunn,

It's kinda hard to practice force-on-force training with .22 Anschutzes.

Blood gets everywhere, someone calls the cops, it all ends in tears... ;)

(When the kid next door isn't playing airsoft with his buds, they're out in the horse pasture across the way busting clays or plinking with his .22.)

I just ordered a G19 lookalike

Cause my wife gets all annoyed if I fire the real one in the basement!

I have a kickass paintball gun, but it's not anything like a real gun except for the grip and the fact that something flies out of the barrel when you pull the trigger. Can people use airsoft to play...like paintball? IS there paint with airsoft or do you just get hit with a projectile? Tell me more about airsoft...

Oh don't buy that, someone may get hurt. The police might not approve. What would people think ? Make sure you paint it the approved color. And remember, people can't be trusted with stuff like that.

I played tournament paintball for 5 years, traveling over a good portion of the country to do so. Some of the best times of my life have been on a paintball field. Unfortunately due to an injury at work, I recently unloaded $4500 worth of my gear. As for Airsoft, YES. People play it generally in a more tactical fashion than tournament paintball, but it's a ton of fun. The people that I've played with all use some sort of eye protection and play fairly seriously. As a paintballer, I was definitely outclassed! :) My run and gun $#it didn't work nearly as well against those guys. At any rate, look for a group that plays near you and go out with them. You won't regret it, and those little pellets sting!

Just spent all day saturday playing airsoft, damn it is a fun as hell, and damnit now I can now barely move, legs sore as all hell (running and squating, jumping, etc sure takes it out of you in the 90 degree heat too, but it is sooo much fun) Got a bloodblister from a hit on my forearm and a nice insect bite looking mark from a hit to the neck (on top of the half dozen actual insect bites all over me...) Got some good kills though, love my little M733. Perfect combo of barrel length for accuracy and mobility for airsoft IMO.

Pic of most of the other guns of the group, several aren't pictured though (a couple duplicates and a couple not in attendance this day): http://www.dcpnet.org/media/AirSoftArsenal.jpg

Airsoft is great fun. Some college friends and I play it in an isolated area of a local park. Sadly we don't have any AEGs and wont untill we have someplace to play that is designated for that kind of thing.

When I bought my airsoft pistol (Beretta M9) the tip had been airbrushed black by its previous owner. After I recieved it I scraped off the black paint to expose the blaze orange barrel tip underneath, just to be on the safe side.

I do not like toy guns that appear to be real guns.
Toy guns and fools can be a Darwin moment.
I have no problem with toy guns that look real, it's the fools I have a problem with. The more real the toy guns look the more fun they are.

I just bought a gas powered M11A1 the other day. It's great fun shooting it up insde the house!

Jungletoy has a special on 2 M11A1s, fake suppressors, and bags for $200.

Normally, one M11A1 goes for about $140, so it was a great deal. My brother and I split the cost so now each of us has one!
