Has anybody had any problems with their Savage Axis?

I have had some light strikes and thought is was a primer than I didn't get seated tight. How easy is it to take apart an Axis bolt ?? What is this firing pin retainer pin ?
kwg
You tube has a few videos on the disassembly of the bolt. I would recommend watching a few of them.

Recently took game with one in 308. Found on first shot the bolt is easier than other rifles to lift. Got click on first try. Figured I had just failed to charge a round when I got in stand. Reached to charge and the bolt was half way up. Recharged and everything worked fine. Took 2 doe next day and no issues. Did notice primer strike was somewhat shallower that say a rem 700. No ftfs so far. Have shot both brass and steel cased.
No issues with stock, it's wood.

Well I was able to get to the range today with my Axis 223 and finished shooting up a load ladder I've started. This round some were again loaded using those CCI #41 primers and also some using CCI #400 primers.

I had 29 loads with the #41 primers and ended up with 9 misfires or FTF. Then also had 36 loads using the CCI #400 primers and every one of them fired. Between this and the last range session I had broken down the bolt, de-greased, cleaned and lightly lubed with no improvement with the #41 primers.

I now also have 100 CCI 450, 1100 Remington 7 1/2 and 600 Winchester SRP to try out in this gun.

Savage Axis 223 here. Will not even make a dent on a primer. No answer at any savage phone number. 2 weeks and counting on multiple email contacts via the savage web site.
Cleaned bolt, added washer, all you tube videos watched...no strike. ***
Any thoughts on replacing springs on this 2 piece spring wonder?

Email them through their website. They will respond.

I believe they are stuck in a Liberal controlled state and office personnel are working from home.

Probably not the answer people want to hear, but they just don't make stuff like they used to anymore.

In my personal journey, I'm finding that a lot of the old weapons are more reliable than the modern ones. :(

Axis II here in .223. Fired about 400 rounds in mine and no issues at all yet. No answer at help line is because nobody is available....Covid has them shut down as of 2 months ago.

I purchased 5 during the clearance sales earlier, the 4 I've shot, the other is a christmas gift, have been doing fine with both factory and my reloads, could the problem be with a dirty or over greased pin/spring? I found the 2 action screws and the scope screws needed to be checked and the trigger group needs to be cleaned and lubed, I like the idea of stiffening the forearm of the plastic stocks.

Whether there is an issue or not, all of those (except the trigger if I'm not adding a spring kit or something) are things I check and fix before I shoot a rifle for the first time. I always break down the bolt, clean the barrel and action, etc. shortly after I bring it home.

Fifth email since 11/29 with no response. Anyone have a back door way to customer service?

Here are some of their local phone numbers. Maybe try on Monday.
It's possible that they have been shut down due to Covid and Massachusetts.

Both of my Walmart give away Axis IIs, one in 6.5CM and the other a heavy barrel in .223, are good shooters and like all Savage rifles, supremely accurate. I have no complaints for either. Yes, I took them apart and cleaned, reset scopes and rings, put a Boyds and Nikon on one of them and some other work including the extraction kits, but they are both more than equal or IMO better than the similar priced rifles and these were nearly free. The Ruger American is a great rifle but many Rugers just do not match Savage out of the box accuracy, in fact, few rifles do at any price. And the Axis rifles are no different.

I've heard this before, it's why I load all my .223 with CCI #400 vs. #41 primers. Never had rounds with #400's double in an AR.

Right after I received my Axis 223 about 5 months ago we were already lost in the supply chain. I was able to find some Hornady 55gr bullets, a bottle of TAC and a bottle of BL-C2 and then traded a friend some pistol primers for some CCI #41. Had horrible luck and experience with those. Thru some more trading I was able to get some CCI 400 and tried them. Every one fired! Last night I loaded up some with Federal primers my boss gave me and I now also have some Remington 7 1/2 and Winchester WSR to try. Really hoping this was all due to those CCI #41 primers.

Got an email response. Ship it back at my expense, they will determine next if its a warranty problem. If it is they fix and ship back. If not a warranty all at my expense. Kind of a bad taste...not one round fired yet. Back it goes.

Well that Hoover's. Pay for shipping there and then they may or may not charge you to look at it and fix it.. YIKES!

I did have an issue with one lot of hornandy 50 HR soft points that were out of spec base to shoulder that caused a few misfires iny m11 223. Solved it by running them through the sizer die and reloading them. Maybe check out that too.

I bought an Axis last summer. I had lots of trouble sighting it in. Turns out the stock was so flexible that putting pressure on the rifle to hold it steady caused the stock to bend and touch the barrel. I didn't shoot it enough to find other problems.
I'm having trouble understanding this problem. I've sighted in, or helped sight in many Savage rifles with tupperware stocks. How was it that you were managing to put pressure on the rifle? Most people sight in using a rest (sandbags, etc) and lay the rifle on the rest. No pressure there that I can think of.
