Has anybody noticed any play in their triggers on their Marlin lever actions?

I was curious if anyone noticed any side to side / front to rear play in their triggers on these guns. I have an 1894C that I bought NIB from Big-5 a while back and have noticed this type of play. I gun shoots normal and all but, I was curious if I have something that needed warranty work.

Thanks, Flip.

Just checked my Marlin 94 in 44 mag ... never really looked before but side-to-side play is quite apparent. Fore and aft is pretty well Ok I'd say.

In normal use I have not found the trigger lacking badly re actual function. I'd not be overly concerned ... but mine is quite well used BTW.

Just checked all of my lever guns
Older, well used (80's) Winchester 94-- Plenty of slop fore and aft and side to side

Marlin Cowboy.45 fore and aft free flop and some side to side, noticable but not severe

Marlin 336 Same front to rear free play as the others and about the same side to side as the Cowboy

Rossi 94 44/40 absolutly no play

I have a Marlin 336W. If the gun is pointed down, the trigger has a little play. Otherwise, almost nil.

I forgot to mention, my Cowboy had some kind of professional SASS type trigger/action job just before I bought it.

I'll be visiting a CAS specialty shop tomorro I'll ask about the slop issue

On Marlins, front to rear trigger play is common, "floppy trigger" it's on all of them. You can get the Wild Wet Guns trigger happy kit that will take care of the most of the trigger play, and give a nice ~3 pound trigger pull. If you just want to get rid of the side to side play go to a copy machine repair store and they can sell you a little brass washer to put next to the trigger.

I notices the same side to side movement.
Result: didn't buy the gun.

Thanks for the info evryone.

I was woried that is was a problen that I would have to get fixed. I'm glad that it isn't a problem at all and quite common.

Flip. :)

That fore and aft trigger play is normal in both Marlin and Winchester lever action rifles. Those lever guns have a separate sear and trigger and play between them is normal. Older guns by both companies had a one piece trigger/sear, but the later ones have separate parts. I don't know for sure, but the reason may have been to reduce the possibility of accidental firing if the trigger is brushed while closing the action.

You sound just like the guy I talked to today
This also explains why the Rossi has no play or flop
Supposedly it is true to the original, with half cock being the only safety
