Has anyone else had problems with SWFA scope rings?

I recently ordered a set of 30mm SWFA scope mounts. This was to mount a Steiner 30mm scope to a Ruger .44 carbine (has weaver rails, not picatinny). I found several flaws with the mounts used in this manner. The threads on the weaver screws do not extend far enough. This creates a situation where the tightening bolt will tighten past the threads to the unthreaded section causing the rod to spin but not get tighter. Because the cap for these screws is round it is nearly impossible to get the bolt back on the threads to take it off. The small lock washers also made a mess of the clamp pieces (the metal in these seems to be very soft). Furthermore the effort needed to get the bolts back off bent one of the weaver screws.

Basically these rings are weak and useless. Spare Warne rings I have fit just fine without any of these issues (not 30mm though).

SWFA normally puts their name on good products but these rings seem to be trash. Has anyone else had this experience?

The manufacturing process produces an occasional lemon. It does suck to be the guy that receives that lemon. From what I have read online about SWFA, they will make it right for you.

Have you contacted them about an exchange?

I wrote them a week ago (and this morning) and have not heard back. I'll have to call them next week.

I won't buy anything but Burris steel Zee's, or Weaver steel Grand Slam rings anymore. Superior products in the mid price range.

Had to call twice but SWFA went out of their way to make this right. I'm a happy camper.
