Has anyone seen (in person) the new Walther PK380?

what do the other guys' .380 pistols normally cost? I know the Ruger is from 260 to 400 , but what about the SIG, and Walther, or Beretta?

Well, the PK380 hit the shelves and markets a few days ago; you can find listings for them on GunBroker, including a First Edition version. I was able to find one locally and picked it up for $350 -- quite a surprise. It comes with a single magazine, as per usual today with the new Walthers (I think that SIG started this nasty trend), and looks like a beefed up P22, with a slide that's far more substantial. We'll see how it performs in a few days, when I can get it out to the range.

Sounds like we'll be looking forward to hearing from you in a few days, then!

Keep us posted, searcher...

Must say that on second blush, now that I've had a chance to tear it apart and stick it back together a couple of times, it appears to have more in common with a P22 than it does a P99 or a PPS -- and that's a disappointment. It's true that it's a bit beefier than a P22, but it's not substantially so. Still, you can't really tell until you get 'em out to the range and run some rounds through it, and I won't be able to do that for another week or so.

Well, so long as we are adding to the list:

The Bersa T380 matte, $248. To paraphrase the bumper sticker:

"there are two kinds of people in the world..."

Those that have had bad experiences with other south american (or dirt inexpensive) brands, and those that own Thunder .380s.

For the few bucks you get a fast barrel, reliability, accuracy, a decent trigger pull in both DA and SA, and even (gasp) a slide stop lever. (my one and only beef with the killer Sig P232, though it's an issue with other .380s). A good thing to have in the rare double feed, IMHO.

I'm tellin' ya...

but don't take it from me. Google around, especially, say, stephen camp's hipower site or gunblast. Or ask someone else who owns one.

PS: Searcher, I totally forgot to ask; is there an external slide stop lever on the pk380? That's a deal breaker for me, personally.

I seen the PK380 on Gunbroker 2 days ago also, not such a big deal since i just bought a Sig p238.
My local shop had a Kahr p380 last week for $599,i threw up a little in my mouth when i saw the price.I picked up my Sig for $460 which is a steal these days if you can even find them.
For $350 i think the Walther will sell well, thats a low price for a quality gun if it turns out to be decently reliable.Im not so sure ill be buying one as 1 .380 is all i need, but i always want more but thats a different story.
I think the gun would do better selling if it were not as tall, and have 2 less rounds.
A .380 isn't about capacity as much as its about size of the firearm and concealing it,and the height seems to me to be the next biggest factor besides thickness.

Dont get me wrong tho,ill be looking out for one to check it out asap.

Pk380

Not for me, UGLY as sin. I'll stick to my beretta 85 FS, ppk ss (interarms), sig 232 and little cheap nickel Bersa.

My PK380

My wife has arthritis, and at Cabella's in Hamburg, PA she did not like how hard the slide was to operating on the Walther PPS and the Ruger LCP .380, and I didn't like either so well that I bought myself one anyway. However, when she got my newly-purchased Walther PK380 in her hands, she approved. The recoil isn't bad; she doesn't like the recoil from my 9mm single-column SIG or her Taurus 9mm (similar to the military's M9 Beretta).

But, she likes my PK380.

No external Slide lock/release. But, I reach into the breach with the slide drawn back (it isn't a hand-slammer spring, remember) and flick the little lever up to lock the gun open. So, that turned out not to be a deal-breaker. It locks open on an empty clip after its last shot. To release, drop the mag (or I suppose I could depress the magazine follower through the ejection port) and pull back a little on the slide and it closes.

She's more accurate with the PK 380 than either of our 9's or any of the other 9's in the family, all of which she's tried.

The PK 380 is mine, my choice because my P-22 is the most accurate .22 I've ever owned. I'm certain from a machine rest there are other equally accurate .22's I've handled. But, my P22 fits my hand. That makes it the one for me, because it got me results. I bought the PK 380 after checking how well it fits my hands, and now that I've had it to the range twice, I love the accuracy it gives me. :)

If someone built a 9mm on a frame that fit my hand this well, I'd consider it. A harder-hitting round would be good. Until that time, my PK 380 has proven to be more accurate for me.

I'm pretty sure that you're mileage will vary. I will say that if you like the way the P-22 feels, and more importantly shoots, in your hands, you should try the PK 380.

I sure love mine.

OK here is the deal on the PK380... (my take)

1. It only costs $300 and some change... READ: VERY AFFORDABLE!
2. It has an accessory picatinny style rail for lasers/lights etc.
3. its larger than most 380 guns, but smaller AND thinner then most 9mms
4. Manageable recoil (good for wives and guys: second shot accuracy)
5. Great Ergos, fits your hand like a friggin glove!
6. Ammo is harder to find (most real gun stores do have it in stock) and costs more, but this is not a "range gun" that you go blast a ton of ammo with your buds with... (thats what our 9mm's are for!)
7. Great CCW if you want something smaller AND thinner to carry concealed
8. A quality medium sized gun, that has a little more substance to it!
9. All fingers fit on the grip! No doing the "drop the pinky" thing! Cant stand that!
10. Just a good looking gun, that is great for CCW and affordable to most.

This gun is more for a specific reason... if any of those reasons are in this top 10 list, then you should get it... if your more concerned with Ammo cost, trying to take down a buffalo, or just a fanboy or your favorite brand then this is NOT the gun for you.

I see this gun as an alternate choice for someone that wants to CCW with a gun that is a bit larger than the sub/micro class of guns, but want a thin and easy gun to carry WITH a full grip (all fingers on the grip) and more shot capacity than most of those other guns while keeping it all THIN! Think THIN! That is this gun.

P22/PK380 Deal

I ran across this thread and thought I would chime in on what I saw at the gun shop a a week ago. If anyone is thinking about a PK380 or a P22, I noticed that Walther is packaging a P22 and the PK380 with two magazines for each for around $680. I thought that it was not too bad of a deal since Walther stopped distributing guns with two magazines.
