Walther PK380 Keys

If you have a Walther PK380, you know field-stripping it requires a special key/tool that is included in the box. If you're like me, the possibility the key could go missing is a concern.

Spare keys are now available through Smith & Wesson/Walther America. It's Walther Part No. 2769581 and costs about $5.00 plus shipping. You can all 1-800-331-0852 to order these and they were in stock as of this afternoon.

You also can buy a tool, made of steel, in auto parts stores that fit the PK380 perfectly. The tool looks like a small screw driver, but it has a slot in the end -- it might be a valve stem tool. I think that Pep Boys sells them for $2.

For nearly a century Walther made a 9mm kurz gun that required no tools to field strip!!

The PPK/S is still in production.

What possessed Walther to birth this monstrosity??

Well, keep in mind that the PK380 isn't a true Walther product at all. The doggone thing is made at the Umarex plant in Koln, along with the P22 and the host of air guns that are the Umarex specialty (Umarex is Walther's parent company these days). If you take a close look at the P22, and at the PK380, it becomes apparent rather quickly that they are both air guns on steroids. Heck, when you need an exterior screw to attach the safety mechanism, you know a) that you are in trouble ... and b) that you shouldn't be at all surprised that a key is required for a field-strip. Yup. It's nuts. Frump.
