Simple question, the mags can be found here. While they are expencive, I am wondering how reliable they are and if anyone has tried them. Would I be better off getting BC Steel Lips magazines or are these mags worth the money if one wants maximum capacity for their 10/22?

Thanks.

Just like ammo, the 10/22 likes whatever mag it likes. It makes that decision, not you. Some rifles like the Butlers, some like the Eagles, some like the Ramlines, but you can be pretty sure that one gun won't like them all.

The problem with plastic magazines is usually they won't hold up over time. This is subject to alot of debate, because some guys claim their Eagle mags have run fine for 10 years, while others say 3 range trips = toast.

I believe Eagle (or was it Butler?) makes a double stack 50 round mag. I'd look to that. Same size and shape of the 25rd/30rd mags and half the price, if not less, than the drums.

I think I've seen the MGW drums for $50-ish... so shop around. Personally, if you really want to go that route, I'd only buy one, and use it hard for awhile. It may not even fit, it may not feed, it may not make it past 3 range trips. You just can't know until you try it.

I use Eagle magazines and for $10ea. or less, I'll stick with em. Seem to be made well enough.

If you want, go to www.rimfirecentral.com and search for MGW. You'll read a variety of opinions on them. I've never used one, and would'nt for the price.

Now if you want to spend money, but at least get something made well... Tactical Inc. Aluminum mags Too rich for my blood but thats not saying much :uhoh:

Also... Just found this at Midwayusa, listed as "coming soon"
ProMag 50rd drum, black, $59.99

I have had very good performance from my Butler Creek "Hot Lips" 25-round mags for my 10/22.

Haven't tried the 50-round version. Uhmmmm $60 for the 50-round drum? That's about 1/2 the cost of a 10/22 on sale...

I got the BC's right after the expiration of that dreaded Clinton Cosmetic Features Ban...IIRC, they were on sale for around $16 eqach

That 50 round drum is one of the worst magazines I have ever come across.

Tried to help its owner make it work reliably, but no joy.

Factory magazines and Butler Creek 25 rounders really are the only two choices for the 10-22.

For the money, I'd go for a few high capacity mags (say, 30 or so) instead of just one 50. Just my opinion, but reload isn't that slow with the 10/22s I've shot. I've shot sixty rounds (30x2) through one in less than a minute, easy.
