Has CZ's reputation caught up to them?

While exchanging comments in one of the 9MM threads, it was recommended that I check out the CZ75.

Since its about time for my annual gun buying binge, and a recommendation from the forum is as good a reason as any I headed to the gun shop.

I have read lots of threads extolling the virtues of this pistol. The accuracy, the fit, the reliability, and most of all what a bargain they are at $300.

Well my local shop had two, one in plain blue, the other in electroless nickel, and both just a few $$ shy of $500:(

Looks like the law of supply and demand has caught up to them. Thoughts??

How about shopping around?

Seriously, though, the standard $350 finish is polycoat. Blue and nickel are more. But shop around. Many small time places will order a pistol for 10% over cost. Try a pawn shop.

It's been a while since I've seen a brand new CZ75 marked at $300 - around here, they go for $350 and the superb SA version goes for $390.

I think you should do some calling around of other local stores, if there are any.

I believe that you are 1/2 right....We all knew it was happening slowly....LOL. The guns have been almost too cheap for a long time. As soon as the popularity caught up with them, pricing has to go up....simple economics.
BUT the store you went in is just ALOT high! The place that seems to have the most CZ's in the SLC valley, has a NIB Blued compact that is 399$...ok its a fair price..not great. They also had a blued 83 marked for 409$....now thats quite a bit high...to me.
I paid 200$ shipped for my first 83 a while (cough) back......

Guess what? The 83 sold and the compact hasnt sold yet....Hmmmmmm :rolleyes

Go figure....Shoot well

Thanks guys. That's why I was asking. This shop has a reputation for being high. Mainly because they are the only game in town.

The few pawn shops that are around here only stock a few rifles and junk .25 automatics.

There is a "mom and pop" store about an hour away that I bought my last gun from. They can usually beat my local guy, I just wanted to make sure that the $200 overprice I perceived was real and not a factor of inflation. While most of the economy is experiencing price cuts, the gun industry, at least around here, seems to be experiencing double digit inflation.

The dealer that had them at $500 was selling them for $309 back in the fall.

Price has been going up slowly on the CZs. I used to see them for $300-330 with a 15 round mag but now it is $350 and up and often there is no hi-cap with it. :banghead: Add for the hi-cap and they are getting up there. Not quite the deal they once were but they were so underpriced that it is still a bargin. They are priced about like Rugers but are forged not cast and accuracy is probably better.

For $500, those CZs are going to get pretty dusty.:neener: Why do people own gun stores if they don't want to sell guns? You know he didn't pay more than $350 for the gun so why the huge markup?

is the gun worth 500?

yes,

Should you have to pay 500? No. Check out gunbroker.com.
They have a list of friendly ffl holders in your area. Find one and give em a call and see if they will hook you up. It is a good way to find out what a gun should cost minus shipping and transfer fee. You can still often avoid sales tax over the internet but not from a local shop.

good luck

Try Indpls first

My favorite gun store in Beech Grove carries them at $350.
Then theres the store at Washington and post rd that carries them right around $390.
Then on Pendelton pike north of 465 he carries them close to $425.
So to save $75 to $150 try Indpls.

Yep... tell them that two different gunshops in Indy have 9mms and 40s in stock for $350 and if he would like to sell one instead of having it take up space on his shelf, that is the going price.

Otherwise, come down to Beech Grove or Plainfield and get one for $350. :p

Thanks for all the input guys. He knows his prices are that high, but I don't think he's worried that much about it.

George I tried your tactic on a new Colt a couple of years ago. He offered to knock $10 off the price.:(

The sad thing about it is their wholesale department has one of the best reps of any website on the internet, but if you go into the retail store you can't get the same prices and you're lucky if anyone asks to help you.

Beech Grove - is that Albro's?

Beech Grove - is that Albro's?

Yep, it is.

The one on the at Washington and Post is Popguns
http://popguns.com

The one in Plainfield is Plainfield Shooting Supplies (317) 839-6095

Or you might even check out Bradis in Camby.

Also here's a link that lists a few other guns shops here in Indy
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/7169/070202.html

I'd call all of them and see who's got them in stock or can get one for you and who's got the cheapest price. I know Albro's sell's all there new guns for 10% over cost

Thanks Traithe, Albro's is a nice little store. Not a lot of floor space, but a good inventory.

I think I've been to the one in Plainfield. That's the one near Galyans and the police academy IIRC.

Have to check out Popguns still. I may be coming up for qualifying at the speedway next weekend so I'll be in the neighborhood more or less.

Thanks again for everyone's feedback.

price of CZs

A base model CZ75 in 9mm sells for $350 to $375 on the wholesale level at this time. What you are seeing for cheap CZs now are ones from last year that sold for $290 to $310 wholesale with one hi cap and one 10 round mag. They are gone from the distribtors shelves, so get them while you can at a retail store in still in stock. They were/are a great deal.
If a gun store is getting in CZ75s now, no way they can sell it for $350. They paid that + shipping. CZ40s are a great deal now selling for $270 to $320 wholesale.

Speedway

If you're gonna be at the Speedway, stop by Shoes Gunrack also. They don't have much selection, but I have seen a few CZ's in there from time to time.... Their prices generally aren't to bad...

Located on NW Corner of 10th and Main St.

OK, got to check out some of the shops in Indy while I was up at the speedway.

I checked out Popguns and Albro's. No CZs in sight new or used. Did see a couple of interesting toys that I may have to go back for though.

Checked out a place called Dons Guns just north of the speedway at Lafayette Square. He had one new CZ for the same price I pay down here, and a very beat up used one priced like a new Sig :what:

I wish I could find a good range that rents a "variety" of guns like I see people posting on here from time to time. It would help to be able to try one out before spending a lot of time and money looking for something that you may end up not liking after all.

I was just looking at the JG Sales website. They were selling 75 BDs for $320 for awhile. That gun is now $400, and the B $390.

Pretty soon, people are going to get a lot more critical of these nice, but no longer cheap guns.

The question is, how are Baby Eagle and Witness prices?

The question is, how are Baby Eagle and Witness prices?

Saw one Witness, it was still in the low $300 range. My local dealer has a bunch of Baby Eagles, mostly hard chromed they were in the high 3s to mid 4s as well.

Price Change

The $300 CZ-75's were supposedly from an over-run for the Turkish government, that got diverted to the states.

$350 is about what the cheapest CZ-75's are going for. Shipping would be about $25, and then transferring it through an FFL another $20, so $395 isn't a bad offer, *iff* it includes sales tax.

I just picked up a CZ75 Compact Nickel 9mm for 247 $ NIB in SLC.....................
Kidding.....actually it was around 445$ OTD when all was said and done.

Honestly I dont expect the prices to get "too high"...People are realistic in their expectations and what they will pay for anything..guns included. CZ's are very nice..but if they think their gonna sell as well as Sigs at the same $...They need better/consistent springs and make the finish's on all of them like the 97 B in blue.....gorgeous...
Well just have to sit back and see ....Just my take on CZ's as a RABID supporter ........

Shoot well :D
