For years, my Father and Uncle and all of us cousins have hunted doves here in South Carolina. Eagerlay awaiting September to get here for the next season. We ALL have ALWAYS insisted on using Remington Shurshot Field Loads, #8 or # 7.5. We preferred them over the others because of the noticable difference in performance and pattern which we always credited was due to having 3 1/4 Dr. Eq. of Powder. The other types of shells only posted a velocity and not a measurement. There is a definite difference though that can be felt, seen and heard when other hunters shoot.
The other day, I was picking up a fresh case of Remington Shurshot #8 and I noticed that they did not list 3 1/4 Dr. Eq. anymore, but instead like their competition listed 2550 velocity. Then I looked at the sub par shells that we had avoided all these years and they listed 2500 velocity. My question is has Remington stepped down on their powder usage or is this an equal amount to 3 1/4 Dr. Eq. We have always loved the ShurShot, but would hate to see them sacrifice quality for price. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
