For years, my Father and Uncle and all of us cousins have hunted doves here in South Carolina. Eagerlay awaiting September to get here for the next season. We ALL have ALWAYS insisted on using Remington Shurshot Field Loads, #8 or # 7.5. We preferred them over the others because of the noticable difference in performance and pattern which we always credited was due to having 3 1/4 Dr. Eq. of Powder. The other types of shells only posted a velocity and not a measurement. There is a definite difference though that can be felt, seen and heard when other hunters shoot.

The other day, I was picking up a fresh case of Remington Shurshot #8 and I noticed that they did not list 3 1/4 Dr. Eq. anymore, but instead like their competition listed 2550 velocity. Then I looked at the sub par shells that we had avoided all these years and they listed 2500 velocity. My question is has Remington stepped down on their powder usage or is this an equal amount to 3 1/4 Dr. Eq. We have always loved the ShurShot, but would hate to see them sacrifice quality for price. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Check the boxes again for fps. I think you have the figure a mite higher than the box really states.

I didn't get any so I don't have a box to look at except the ones I had bought a couple years ago. They have 3 1/4 Dr. Eq. and 1 1/4 oz. Not real sure how that translates into fps.

I was referring to velocity. It is more like 1200 than 2500. These are light target/small game loads, probably 3 drams.

You are right, I probably did get the numbers wrong, but I am going on memory since I didn't buy any last week. So my question is if the new boxes state that they are 1255 fps., how close is that to 3 1/4 Dr. Eq,? Is it equal or have Remington lightened the load? They used to be called Heavy Dove Load. I sincerely do appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Scott

I found an old box of Remington Heavy Dove loads from last year. It has 3 drams eq and 1 1/8 oz shot.

The ones that I have have 3 1/4 dr. eq. and some have 1 1/8 oz shot and some have 1 1/4 oz. I have some shur shot heavy dove loads and the premier version just like it with the same numbers. Thats what I was trying to get more of when I noticed the changes and wasn't sure what all had changed.

I have a case of Remington Shur Shot heavy field loads that I ordered. They are 3 1/4 1 1/4. I think the dove loads are 3 1/4 1 1/8

The RP12H is 1 1/4
RP12HD is 1 1/8
