I just have a hard time getting my head around how poorly the average person is prepared, apparently, for any emergency, whatsoever. SMH ...

Seems like it to me too, and I have 35 years on you.
I don't. I'm old, and probably a little stuck in my ways. But I don't hold anything against younger folks such as yourself (even though you call yourself "Good Ol' Boy") who are willing to learn.
BTW, I've been around guns, hunting and shooting my whole life. And I can remember my dad stocking up on 308 Winchester ammo and joining the NRA not long after JFK was shot. So this isn't my first rodeo - the main reason I look around to see what guns and ammo the gunstores around here have in stock is not because I need more of those things right now. It's mainly because I like to compare what it's like around here to what I read on the internet about other places.

Not long ago, I thumbed my nose at those who wore tactical vests and looked like they were going to war.
Today, I'm cruising the internet looking for tactical vests. And I'm looking at my meager supply of .223 and thinking I might need more.

IIRC, the "serfs" in IL-ANNOY are not "allowed" the use of body armor. Same for suppressors.

Now I'm trying to determine which will be my primary civil unrest long arm; my AR-15 with 16" barrel in .223, or Extar braced AR pistol in 9mm. Sidearm will be the Glock G19, so with the Extar, I just need one type of magazine. But the AR would offer more penetration of barriers and simply more firepower. Tough to choose. Both AR platforms so familiarity is equal.

Can an IL resident (outside Chicago) make a deal via Armslist--with no background check?
Or can both buyer and seller simply show each other their FOID cards and drivers licenses?
In TN there never was a gun panic regarding Armslist. Some of the ads for many specific handguns and 'sport utility rifles', >>at fairly 'normal' prices<<, have been posted for well over two-three weeks.

1) flipping ammo, 2) guns and 3) other gear right now.
Let's never forget the profit incentive for so many private sellers and businesses. They don't want to finally see the price bubbles gradually deflate and be stuck with too much capital invested in their items.
Retail gun shops must be 'suggesting' trouble or "I heard a 'warning'

Antifa and similar organized groups appear to have overplayed their hand. They can't risk the terrible p.r if they were to cause children or babies to die, can they?

Is it just me, or are we on the verge of a SHTF/TEOTWAWKI thread? (Not complaining) As it happens, while my spouse and I were watching the 6:00 pm news (more violent "protests," more cops shot, another home invader dispatched by the resident, an NFL quarterback shamed into being PC and "admitting" that because he was white, he just didn't get it), she asked me if I thought the world was going crazy ... For the first time in 35 years, she asked me if we had enough ammo.
Sorry! New reality, SHTF is now spelled, NDPC (hints, Normal During Political Cycles). Best advice, if you wander slightly out of the manicured lawn into the yard, don't stray too far towards the weeds & sticks hehe That said, IBTL (In Before The Lock) hehe

It is far too easy for me to venture off into a detailed diatribe as to what and why the world is off it's hinges. After trying to write a simple example, I found I was on my third paragraph so I edited it out.
Self centered, selfish, entitled, egotistical, arrogant, self absorbed, lazy, hypocritical, with zero moral compass come to mind.
When the soft start to socialism started some months ago, it was a bit scary at first for us, but actually a good thing because it showed the gaps in our prepping. So we are now making the modifications necessary.

The world seems mostly normal if you don't watch propaganda. On a daily basis the only thing different for me is the lack of handgun ammo. And 00buck. And reloading supplies are harder to find. And Glocks are sold out everywhere.
It's all just a bottle neck. Nothing sinister going on I'm sure. Defund the cops and start your own militia to patrol the neighborhood is the cry from the crazies. How are the these militias being armed? There's no way anti gun billionaires would arm up militias to cause unrest? Right?
Cause a shortage by buying up inventory to give to the "new police militia" and make it harder for normal Americans to defend themselves. Sounds like exactly what a couple of anti gun billionaires would want. But otherwise the world seemed normal when I was out this last weekend.

America better wake the heck up and smell the coffee!. We are seeing first hand how that power is slowly eating away at the 2A rights. The Left has been planning and preparing for years and systematically and successfully gaining that power right under our noses. We have been asleep. And they are winning! Politicians across the Country giving into all demands in order to be Politically correct. Scared for their jobs. Scared to speak the truth.
