I'm buying a new carry gun and it's between these....
Sig 229 SAS gen 2
HK P30
Walther P99/99C

any opinions would be helpful,i haven't shot the P30 but i've owned HKs before
this is a tough one guys....

Sig Sig Sig and of they're out of those get the SIG! ;-) I've shot all three and the honest order would be 229, P30, then the P99. I liked the first two and wasn't a fan of the third. I could go on and on about Sigs but you wouldn't have to look hard to find a million other posts doing the exact same thing. So in a nutshell, that's my opinion.

If it were me, I'd buy the SIG. Wouldn't even think twice about the other two...or possibly not even once

Mec-Gar makes the factory SIG magazines (as well as many other companies) - so you'll have a great magazine in that

Well there ya go

So tell us, what's important for YOU in a carry gun, and what about these 3 guns stand out to you?

i love all three, reliability and accuracy are important to me. i also carry a G30,19 and 26 :)
however i love sigs,HKs and walthers....they look nice but they also perform. i just dig high quality weapons. the p99 is great but i wish it were more popular, lack of holsters and affordable/available mags is no good. the p30 feels great but so does the sig....the sas gen 2 comes with the srt trigger, night sights and has the carry melt treatment. its a tough call....

I've got the P30. I love it , feels great in your hand , shoots smooth and accurate. The sights are easy to pick-up , I think you would like it

JMOfartO:

The only one of the bunch you are considering that I've personally owned is the P99/AS.. In fact I had the full size P99c/AS and the P99/AS..

Both Walthers were 100% reliable and amazingly accurate.. In fact the compact P99c/AS was as accurate as any pistol I've ever owned, or shot, including (surprisingly) my HK P7's and HK P2000sk (V3)..

The only downsides I found with the P99's were they were imported by S&W, only came with a one year warranty, and generally were considered the "red-headed stepchild's" by the importers.

In fact, S&W sold their own "version" of the P99 in the SW99 (my Buddy has one) and it was cheaper to purchase, came with a lifetime warranty from S&W and was every bit as reliable and accurate as my Walthers..

Go figure.

I loved the ergonomics of the grips on the Walthers, and I sold the P99c when I bought a new PPS (bad mistake)... The early series PPS was a pos, and I didn't buy another P99c/AS, I bought a P2000sk instead. (Excellent pistol)..

Buy what FITS your hand and interest in the pistols you are considering. Our opinions basically don't mean squat, only expressions of personal experiences we've had with one or two examples of the guns you mentioned.

I think all you are considering will be fine.. Just get what YOU like best.

No offense,

Best Wishes,

Jesse

I vote for the Walther P99C in 9mm. Very easily concealed, very accurate, and capable of using the 16 round full-size magazines. I have one and like it so much I sold the full-size P99. This is also one of the lightest 9mm designs out there. My feeling is that if I can't comfortably carry a pistol, it isn't much good to me. You owe it to yourself to at least examine the Walther P99C.

Of your three I would have to go with the 229. Nothing bad that I can think of, personally, in the other two, just not as good as the Sig. It will all boil down to what glints in your eye when you see it and fits your hand best when you hold it.

If I went with Sig, it would be with the new E-2 configuration. They have an E-2 in both 226 (my choice) and 229

If you have the money and don't mind the weight, go withy the Sig. My P229 has tens of thousands of rounds through it and has never once malfunctioned.

If weight is an issue, go with the P99/P99C. My P99AS is easily my favorite off-duty gun. It's accurate, reliable, easy to conceal (even the full size), and easy to carry.

Since time is short, I will be also. You have named my top three brands and guns that I know well. The SIG and Walther P99C (and PPS) are going to be best for carry, but I would offer another choice, the HKP2000SK. The gun is superb. I have one in .40 and it is amazing.

I'm going against the grain here, but I'd go with the Walther P99AS. Feels better in my hand than the H&K & Sig. P99 feels slimmer to me, plus still still has the SA/DA trigger like a hammer fired gun. Second choie would be the H&K.

I was jsut thinking about the full size P99 AS. The OP is looking at the P30 which is one the large side for concealed carry, and the P99 is similarly sized. That said, the P99C can use full sized mags, especially with an adapter, which offers a nice option or a great back-up mag.

Any way he goes he will have an excellent pistol.

i put the decision off for a few more days until i can really think about it,going to the gun show tomorrow to handle everything in order to help me make my decision

Nothing wrong with taking a few more days to sort it all out. The best thing to do, if you can arrange it, is to get all of the models you are interested in and take them out for a test-drive to find the one gun that best fits your hand and eye. Be sure to give a good, hard look at the Walther P99. It's a terrific pistsol, especially in the AS trigger configuration. My vote would be to get the P99C for carry purposes, then pick up some of the full-sized P99 magazines and a grip sleeve so that you can turn the compact into the full model. You get two pistols in one by doing this -- and a handgun that is hard to top, in my book.

Good luck to you.

i would get the walther p99/pps but mag prices and availability are really ridiculous....they should work on that and their guns would be much more popular
