So i have about 1500 to blow and would like some input.

I have some of my bases covered, with a 10/22, shotgun, ak, assortment of pistols.

I would be up for suggestions on pistols, or 308 rifles.

Some guns I've been eyeing are
Springfield m1 by it self
Ruger scout gunsite with optic
S&w 686 (I would have enough left over for something else)
Also looking at fireproof safe which would just about take all the money too.

Any suggestions would be great. Besides the m1 or fp safe, i'm trying to possibly grab two firearms!

My personal pick would be the Gunsite Scout Rifle. It would be great for anything outdoors, and it could be used for HD in a pinch.

You have a S&W 686 .357 revolver in there and a semi automatic .308 rifle in there. That makes it sort of difficult for me to tell you what you want. Me? I like my M1A because I enjoy rifle and have several revolvers. However, if I were you and considering a revolver I might think about an older S&W like a Model 27 or Model 28, maybe a nice Colt Trooper. Nothing says you need to buy brand new.

Anyway, between the Ruger Scout and M1A (SA) I would like opt for the M1A unless of course you want a bolt gun in which case buy the Ruger.

I don't know your taste or the application so hard to say what you should get.

Safety first droid, gotta go with get the safe. If your collection is small enough you should still have a little left over for a good rifle.

I know, I'm all over the place. I really have all my "goto" guns in order and am looking for something fun.

I don't think we are in an economic phase where you should be thinking about what is the most fun. Not the advice you are looking for, but there it is. Things are going to get worse. A safe would be better than a new gun. Ammo would be better than a new gun. Heck, a stack of silver coins would be A LOT better than a new gun.

Be the ant, not the grasshopper.

I have a safe already. I was just thinking of upgrading it to fireproof to also put other important things in there.

They typically run around a 1000 bucks.

If I go with the gunsite rifle, the rest would be for ammo or a nice scope to go with it.

It has been said a real safe should cost as much as some significant portion of the value of your collection. 25%? Right now a safe at that price wouldn't be worth having and you could secure your battery in a closet with a sturdy solid core door and dead bolt.

You have to ask yourself if anything on that list is going to be your next hobby. If one of them is then get that and enjoy the addition to the shooting sports it brings.

I don't know what I want next let alone someone else. I know what I should get, but not in what order. You should make sure you have all of the basics first, shotgun, rifle , handgun. Then expand out to what you enjoy shooting most.

I was afraid someone would say that. Lol. It's the most practical, but not much fun lol.

well, I quite enjoy my safe. Maybe I am weird? But I love to open it up, rearrange it, and some times just gaze at the wonders within. I did spend quite a bit more than $1500 on it though. Paid cash at a local safe store and they left out the tax and dropped the price. Something to think about. My vote is SAFE!

$1500 will get an exceptionally nice Python. Buy it, enjoy it a couple of years, sell it and make enough profit to buy a 686. In the end you will have your 1500 bucks and a gun you want.

Reading your previous posts, I'd like to be the odd man out.

Get a good training class on how to run your blaster. I got started late in the game and in my first training class, I learned things I'd never known in my 30ish years of shooting prior.

Good list of folks and locations in S, T & T. ;)

I vote either a safe, currently in need of a good one myself, or some training classes. I also notice that you do not have or do not seem to have any type of AR style rifle so I might even say, Daniel Defense 16" AR of some sort? I recommend the pencil barrel versions. However, if it were me, I think I would really get a good safe. Right now my little collection dwarfs the price of any good safe and because of that I cannot afford anything good to store them in. I only have about 6 firearms but they are worth some coin. So, now even the most expensive safe I could afford would be a small percentage of what my collection is worth. And this is exactly why they are being stored somewhere else since I am leaving the country tomorrow. if it were me I would take your most expensive gun, double what its worth and say that is how much you need to spend on a safe at minimum. if you cant afford that then save the $1500 for something down the road. Next in line would be to take some good training courses.

I have half of an AR lol. Just need the barrel and bcg. I can finish piecing that together with extra money here and there. It's rare I get this lump sum to blow with 3 little girls lol.

I'd you have guns, you may not need more guns... but if you have guns, you will always need more ammo... and practice.

I've been slowly stocking ammo. I guess I'm looking for items I can't buy at 30 bucks each week(like ammo)

It's looking like i could get a nice fp safe and the gunsite scout rifle for about 1500. This is where I'm leaning now.

If you're thinking toward the budget end of safe and have a Dunhams nearby (it's mainly the upper MW and some of the NE/SE), I saw this recently... http://www.dunhamssports.com/products/cannon-safari-36-gun-fireproof-safe/

It seems a decent size. It is fire resistant to 1200 for 30 minutes (though I guess that depends on how they test it). As to protection, it (very) likely won't stop anybody who knows what they're doing but unless you've a collection worth several thousand dollars somebody who knows what they're doing isn't likely to be your problem.

Not advice I would have given myself 10 years ago, BUT--
Consider getting a twin for your AK, more parts and ammo, ect, for both--and then spend the remainder on a low-medium end savage (or similar) bolt gun.

With a spare weapon of the same type you can sink extra into rainy day supplies without worry.

But yes, an M-1a (or to my taste its forebearer the Garand) won't disappoint or loose a ton of value if taken care of.

Don't know if you have a Academy Sports handy but they had a 40 gun safe for less than a grand. I think that it is rated at 1200 degrees, although I had a fireman tell me that a 1200 rating isn't likely to help in a house fire.

I second the motion...get the Gunsite Scout Rifle. Almost like getting a milsurp type of thing in a modern package, with good factory sights, easy and various optics mounting options, detachable box magazine with a decent capacity (10 isn't it? ...think Enfield), AND chambered, per the OPs spec, in .308/7.62...second only to 30-06 and/or .223/5.56 in availability...and unlike a milsurp .308, hot factory loads will work in it just fine. Plus with your declared budget, you could buy quite a bit of ammo for the thing too.

My next centerfile rifle will be one of these things. Might be a while...I'm on a rimfire kick right now.
