Don't know if you have a Academy Sports handy but they had a 40 gun safe for less than a grand. I think that it is rated at 1200 degrees, although I had a fireman tell me that a 1200 rating isn't likely to help in a house fire.

It all depends upon the house fire. If it burns down to the foundation, probably not, but if it is just gutted, and doesn't collapse, it probably would.

If I lived in Town, with a Fire Station close by, I would consider the 1200 degree, 30 minute safes. But since I live out in the country with a big old two story farm house, I need the best fire proof safe I can get, which usually run several thousand dollars.
 
The safe is gonna have to wait a little bit longer. Introducing my first AR!
