Don't let what happen to me?

He is talking about about what they did in Canada, and to make sure what happens there never happens in the U.S.A. Canada has 3 classifications for firearms.

Non Restricted : Shotguns and some rifles
Restricted: Other rifles and some handguns
Prohibited: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-fd/prohibited-prohibe-eng.htm

From the link that the poster provided.........

"Swiss Arms Confiscated
Effective 10:00 pm eastern tonight the RCMP has reclassified the Swiss Arms Classic Green carbine from non-restricted (and restricted) to prohibited status. There are approximately 1,000 -1,800 of these firearms in the public. The government will not be offering compensation and will be demanding that the firearms, which cost between $3,000 - $4,000 be surrendered. The government is suggesting that all affected firearms owners contact the distributers from which the firearms were purchased for reimbursement.

The NFA"
(National Firearms Association of Canada) "encourages all affected owners to contact their federal Member of Parliament.
This is part of an ongoing agenda of the RCMP to progressively prohibit firearms in Canada."

Our friends up North are warning us that what happens up there could happen here, especially with the recent developments in Connecticut.

.

Yup it's terrible owners have now been given 6 months to comply. The restricted rifles are registered and the RCMP knows where each and every one is. The non restricted will be tracked down with the old long gun registry data, the same data that was ordered destroyed by our government, the same data the RCMP have admitted to keeping for just this reason. Firearms owners have been beaten down and turned against each other for so long in Canada it looks as though instead of standing together and fighting this many will simply do as they have always done and say "they'll never come for mine" until we have nothing left.

Put aside for a moment borders, language barriers or geographical location and realize that all <deleted> aside we are all the same, Just ordinary people who enjoy firearms. Why should any police force dictate what we can own or not own. It may not seem like it but what is happening to us affects all firearms owners. This sets a scary precedent that any other government can look at and say "we'll look how they did it maybe that could work for us". I'm not asking you to come fight in the streets with us but to simply spread the word.

In the past some of our firearms were reclassified by the government too. The Streetsweeper , Striker 12 shotguns went from being regular firearms to an NFA item with the stroke of a pen by Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen. As you may know, NFA items here in the U.S. require $200 tax stamps and special registration for each item.

Thank you for letting us know what is happening just North of us and good luck in your fight.

And a private individual cannot sell it in America correct? How about going through an FFL? Is there import restrictions? Basically they're saying you just lost $4,000. Dunno if you can sell to your police, or if they would even want them. Also why would the manufacturer pay to take them back? Monetarily this is a complete loss, even worse it's another erosion of your Liberty.

So sorry OP. Keep fighting. Keep writing letters, talking to your neighbors/friends/family and anyone that has ears. Also speak to other firearm enthusiasts. Especially if they're only shotgunners or hunters. We need to stick together and not sell each other down the river just because it's not the type of firearm I choose to use.
Most importantly, please vote.

The RCMP is using delegated classification authority from the relevant Canadian federal legislation, specifically the Firearms Act, also known as Bill C-68. That's how unelected officials can change or determine the classification category of specific types of firearms in Canada.

Court challenges are being pursued, as are appeals to the party in power. Ironically the current party in control of federal Canadian Parliament is the most pro-gun of the alternatives. All the other parties who might form a government after an election have already indicated they will use the authority already present in the Firearms Act to ban *much* broader examples and categories of firearms in Canada. The 2015 federal election in Canada will starkly determine which direction Canada is going to take for firearm ownership.

Variants of the SIG550 might not be importable "as is" into the US due to prior assault weapons import bans implemented in the US :-( Which would make it difficult to extract value from just-prohibited units in Canada...

I'd like to buy the green handguards, folding stock and grip (and diopter sight and folding front post while we're at it). Let the RCMP have as little as possible, if there's no alternative.

Are there any words in the Canadian Constitution that gives the people of Canada the right to keep and bare arms?

I found this, and there is a LOT of reading here.

http://www.rkba.ca/

"Canadians do have the Right to Bear Arms.

Many Canadians believe (and our government would certainly have us believe) that there is no Right of the citizen to keep arms for their own use and defense, like the US Second Amendment, in Canadian law. To those citizens, I would suggest a bit of reading up on our own history and legal framework. Our right to bear arms is not mentioned in recent documents such as the Constitution or Charter because it's already stated elsewhere in Canadian law. "

"I do not believe that this right was ever specifically repealed. The right still exists; that the Government chooses to suppress that right shows more about the nature of that government than it does about our rights. "

.

A right to bear arms in self defense is a fact of nature, like tides. The question is whether your government recognizes and protects that right, or violates it, but it cannot be "repealed." In my opinion, our respective governments (USA and Canada) have both failed to protect and respect our rights to a greater or lesser extent. That is the inevitable nature of governments.

The right for citizens to be armed is a political decision not withstanding anything written in a document. A more liberal Supreme Court in the US could
overturn the recent gun rights case and we'd be in big trouble. Imagine if Kennedy had sided with those that do Not see an individual right outside the militia. The vote of One justice saved our bacon. The reason we still have our guns is because there are still enough of us that will vote the antis out and that's
what matters.

A right is something you realize you own and it can never be take from you, so long as you are willing and able to fight for it.

What you describe is a privelege.

It looks to me that people are jumping ahead of things. The articles I have read in the Canadian press say that nothing has been officially announced so all of the above about guns being seized without compensation is rumor.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/gun...rumoured-ban-of-classic-green-rifle-1.2554372

from the second article:
On CBC News Network's Power & Politics, Tony Bernardo of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association told host Evan Solomon "the minister" has been working with his group over the past 48 hours about the prohibition of the rifle.

Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney's office issued a statement late Thursday saying, "We are looking into this matter on an urgent basis. Our Conservative government is standing up for law-abiding gun owners."

Spokesman Jean-Christophe de Le Rue wrote, "Minister Blaney will take appropriate action to ensure that firearms owners who acted in good faith are not penalized as a result of the actions of others."

Bernardo said it was premature to assume the government wouldn't entertain the idea of full compensation. Asked how he could be sure, he said the government has talked to him.

It's a fluid situation.

The classification status for the affected firearms has been confirmed online as having been changed by the RCMP. The rest is process.

In the absence of intervention outside the RCMP, threatening letters by bureaucrats quoting Canadian Criminal Code sections will be sent which will eventually be followed up by criminal charges and/or seizure raids will occur. That is a multi-week process at minimum. If the owner appeals, it would be a multi-month process.
