My neighbor was regaling me with stories of the Winchester 71 his father bought him when he returned from Korea. I believe he said the price was somewhere around $135! This not being 1953, the prices have gone up somewhat. So now I'm wondering if Ruger, Browning, NEF, et al. have ever chambered a single shot in good old .348?

I just checked their web site, is .348 a certainty? It made mention of an "extensive list" of calibers, but I was unable to locate said list.

I doubt you can get a custom shop bbl chambered for .348 as no manufacturer is going to stock a special caliber blank that can only be used for ONE very obsolete and unpopular cartridge.

Now you can POSSIBLY have a barrel in a smaller caliber rebored to 348 $$$$$$$

Eh, if nothing else maybe I can find a Martini, or Perhaps Remington action to have barrelled. Ahhhh the possibilities!:)

The Winchester 71, chambered in .348 Winchester, was based on the 1886 Winchester lever action, which was designed by John Browning.
Browning reissued the model 71 in the 1980s as a anniversary issue, in field grade, and presentation grade.
The Model 71, was the Only commercial rifle chambered in .348 Winchester.
It was, and is still the most powerful cartridge ever used in a lever action rifle.

The .450 Marlin easily surpasses it in both energy and killing power. Same with modern .45-70.

I may have a new plan . I've located a .45-70 built off a long lever Martini. Suppose I pick this little gem up and then worry about getting a custom barrel cut. Hell, I may even fall in love with .45-70. Yea or nay?
