Hello,
I was wondering if anybody has replaced their front sights on their Colt revolvers before ?
I would like to install a Black target front sight.
Does anyone know where I can buy them ?

Thanks, Jeff (GUNKWAZY)

Replacing the standard sight is just a matter of carefully pushing out the pins, removing the sight, inserting the new sight and replacing the pins.

Make sure the sight is held tightly in place by the pins.

Something to consider: The Patridge target front sight is TALLER than the standard sight. The Target front was for use ONLY with the Colt Ellison target rear sight.

Chances are, the Python will shoot low and there MAY not be enough elevation available in the standard Colt Accro rear sight to get on target, without having the rear sight cranked way, way up.

However, the factory part number for the Patridge target sight is: #53960B

The Patridge sight is usually available from Gun Parts Corporation.
Their part number is: #926150

Recently, The Sportsman's Guide has been selling a two-pack of these.

NOTE: I've heard that some new Colt Python front sights are plastic.
I ASSUME the Sportsman's Guide sights are steel.

Look at the ramp first.
Older Pythons have a two-pin front blade, later they went to a single pin.
I guess you could drill to suit, but don't know the placment of the holes or whether the shape of the bottom of the blades is compatible.

OK, I checked that Sportsman site the other day and was exited until I found out that they were out of stock on them.

I do have the 2 pin version front sight, so I don't think I'll have to do any drilling. I just need to find the front sight insert. Anyone have an extra that I can buy ? Maybe I'll call Colt tomorrow.
This is the one I want to replace.

Thanks for the info guys.

I've looked and looked for Colt Patridge front sights without success. I just have my friendly local gunsmith make new front sights. They're solid, fairly inexpensive, and narrower than factory sights, so I get a bit more air in my sight picture.

You've an older barrel gun. The single pin front sight barrels had a tapered cone fit to the frame. The later guns/barrels were straight. Sights may not "drop" in because of obvious reasons (one pin/two pin).
