So I have acquired a box of lead cast bullet by Curtis Cast Bullets of Bozeman Montana. Specifications on the box are:
Caliber .40
Style Spire
Weight 410 grains
Diameter .410

What gun would this go to? It seems on the heavy side for black powder 40 Caliber guns I could find on the internet.

It looks like it would be a pretty awesome round to use and I have a lot of them...I just don't know what cartridge it was intended to be used in.

Thank you in advance for your help.

405 Winchester rifle comes to mind as well as a Ruger No.1 rifle and the 400 Holland and Holland.

My 40 caliber muzzleloader has a 1 in 14 twist rate for just such a bullet. Also .40-60 Winchester and .40-65 Marlin use this bullet.

That looks suspiciously like SPG lube, intended for use with black powder. Something like a 40-70 Sharps Straight comes to mind. Finding a Shiloh or C. Sharps just to shoot up those bullets would be an expensive and long term proposition. You might be better off trading them to someone shooting one of the old time 40 caliber guns, for something that will fit what you load for.

Just sayin',
Dave

Or send a barrel to Bobby Hoyt along with a couple bullets. He can reline and bore the barrel to fit that bullet for around $200.00 voila! Hot rod Hawken!

Five years ago I found a bag of 38 55 brass at a bargain table at the local gun shop.
Last year got a. Lyman mold for a 330gn .378 bullet in a box of stuff from a pawn shop.
Took delivery on my Winchester 1885 high wall chambered in same a month ago.

Maybe it's the start of an adventure.
