Have I Rendered my Springfield EMP Useless?

So I recently picked up a Sig P229 Legion to go along with the P226 Tacops I typically use for home protection and my Springfield EMP that I typcially carry.

I took the Legion out and was just astounded at how good it shoots. I have had a lot of nice guns in the past, but this one is by far my favorite.

So, yesterday I had a day of family travel and I carried the P229 instead of the EMP. I found that even though it is a double stack it is not much heavier than the EMP and carries just as easily.

I am a big guy (6'6" 235 lbs) so carrying the P229 is not a problem IWB front or back.

So my question is have I rendered the EMP useless?

Both are fine guns and the EMP is a beauty queen. But side by side while the EMP is a good shooter it is not in the same league as the Legion.

I am thinking ounce for ounce having more rounds and a dead on shooter is going to make it my go to CCW.

Any thoughts between the two?

I've found a lot of really good guns fit in that no mans land between truly pocketable guns and mid size guns that work good for IWB/OWB carry.

I have an EMP in 9mm, nothing special about this gun for the price.
My CZ PCR will shoot rings around the Springfield.
But, the EMP is a nice carry gun, that's all I can say about it.

I, too, have an EMP that I truly like. Early production...serial number 4XX...carries and shoots like a dream. But I too have moved on to double-stacks, CZ RAMI and CZ Compact, for precisely the same reasons you are considering. As a "big guy," it is just as easy to carry a double-stack (at least for me). And if I need to go smaller and even more convenient for carry, I usually go real small...like a Beretta 21a or some such.

But the EMP is a keeper regardless whether it is your EDC.

Yea I agree, the EMP is easily a gun I could keep forever. And who knows I might need to find a boot holster for it.

When I want to carry a truly small and lightweight 9mm. I usually opt for my Kahr CM9. If I want to go up in size and mag capacity I have a Ruger SR9c, CZ P01, and a SIG P229R to choose from. With the proper holster all are relatively easy and comfortable to carry concealed.

Lots of guys swap back and forth between a "carry rotation," and a case can be made that it's a sound practice from a certain perspective. Personally, I'd be in the camp of those saying yeah, you may as well lose the EMP, good gun or not.

I like 1911s. However, you shoot the P229 better and it has a higher capacity. Sounds like a no brainer to me.
