I have been purposely shot at on more than one occassion and I have also had a man point a gun at my face at point blank range as I kicked in a door and entered the room as he was about to supposedly shoot himself. Luckily he was drunk (or maybe that could have been some bad luck) and I was able to quickly disarm him. Just for a second though, that handgun was pointing right at my face. It was a .25 caliber Raven.

The first time I was ever shot at was by some lunatic mountain woman who chewed tobacco and smoked a pipe, decided she didn't want my Dad and I fishing in her pond after we had already gotten permission. She started firing at our Coleman lantern with a .30-.30 lever gun and the bullets were whistling right by us. We knocked out the light and started the duck and run through a barbed wire cow pasture in the dark. We made our way to the house where the shots were coming from and my Dad opened fire with his Smith & Wesson .38 Chief's Special on their multiple beat up cars in the front yard, shattering out the windows. We then had an interesting confrontation with the family. Everything ended up turning out ok with no wounded parties.

0nce before I became a cop. A friend thought it would be fun to throw soemrounds my way while in the woods. We didnt' stay friends and he didnt' do it again. It's amazing the stuopid 16 year old stuff you survive.

I have been threatened by my roommates girlfriends ex boyfriend. He came over and started saying all kinds of trash. Then he said he was going to come back and shoot me if I didnt tell him where they went. I told him thats fine and informed him I was going to call the police. I told him thats his final warning and he had better leave. He did come back and egg one of the cars in the driveway. Unfortunately for him it was my neighbors car (we share a driveway) and she called the police. He was arrested and I dont know from there. I do know that my roommates girlfriend now has a restraining order on him.

And the damndest thing is she is a hardcore anti but she did start asking about small pistols. I took her to the range and now she is looking at a Glock 26!

I keep telling her to go with a Glock 19 but its a start. Now the trouble is getting her to vote for a pro-gun candidate here in IL so we can get CCW.

Once in a strange city in the wrong neighborhood. Skateboarding at a friends church about half an hour before sunset. Apparently white boys are only tolerated during church hours. They drove buy and yelled something about a gun. About five minutes later my instincts kicked in and I dragged my protesting friend to hide behind some AC condensers. We had just gotten to cover when we heard that truck pull up and stop. We heard some footsteps in the grass nearby and what sounded like someone racking a slide. After a couple minutes we heard some laughing and the homies left. We had to knock at about five houses before someone would come to the door. We called his dad to come and get us. I think we were 14 or 15 and we learned several valuable lessons from this experience.

A couple years later there was a drive-by turned shootout there that ended with a van crashing into the church and some trash being cleaned off the street.

I've had a S&W .40 and a 12 gauge 870 pointed at myself and friends after making a little too much noise out in the country with ARs.

First time, in a van full of hippies, we ran out of gas in the wrong part of Oakland, CA. 13-15 year old boy held us up with chromed revolver. I was pretty sure it was a cap gun, but didn't get a good look. Wasn't scared at all until I saw all of his "big brothers" looking at us over the projects wall. He frisked us, we had nothing, they left us alone.

Another time, a friend and I went to rescue another friend from her abusive boyfriend. He pointed his .22 rifle at us through a porthole in his door. I was too angry and dumb to be scared. He backed down when it became apparent that neither of us were intimidated by his gun. Man, that was stupid on our part, but we felt like heroes at the time.

I was lucky both times, hope it doesn't happen again.

I was threatened by some gangbangers at a ranch party back when I was in highschool. Could have been avoided but I was boozed up, sticking my nose in other peoples business, and hanging with the wrong crowd. Luckily nothing happened and a lesson was learned.

in this world

im a private investogator (mainly deals with bond jumping( bounty hunter) lets see 4 time with a hand gun and 2 times with a shotgun. messed up world we live in.

Unlike some keyboard commandos who seem to WANT to get into a gunfight, I thank the Good LORD everyday that I never have been, and pray that I never will be.

Getting shot at is NOT my idea of a good time.
I carry every day, with the fervent hope that I never have to draw.

I did have to draw once - my wife was driving, there was a traffic incident, a crazy guy came up to her window and started yelling when we stopped (a car sideswiped him and he thought it was us [it wasn't]). I thought he was going to break the window and go after my wife.

I was in the front passenger seat, and drew my Glock 17, holding it at low ready between my knees; he didn't see it because it was night. We were finally able to reason with the guy and he accepted the fact that it was not us that sideswiped him.

During the whole time I had the Glock at low ready, I was overcome with this strange feeling of dead calm, knowing that whatever happened, my wife and I would somehow be safe. I'm not sure if it was due to the Glock or the presence of a guardian angel, or both; either way, we came out of the encounter safe.:D

Friend and I were out at Lake Fairfax plinking with our .22 Ruger Single-Six's. We heard what sounded like a 12 gauge and ducked behind a fallen tree, yelling the whole time. Hear someone yell back "Sorry" then blam, blam and bird shot flew through the branches overhead. We stayed put for 30 minutes and were very careful heading back to his car.

Yep. Can only remember the most recent occasion though. I had decided to walk to the local stop and rob with a friend instead of driving(I really should have driven) I was getting smokes for myself and some snacks for my pregnant fiance, he was getting some beer. We passed a couple of younger fellows perhaps 18-20ish in age. On the way out they were at the bus stop nearby and yelled accross the street to us to give them a beer. My buddy politely said no it's not all my beere, otherwise I would. The guy yells out give me a F%CKIN beer A#$hole. My buddy replied sorry man I can't. Then we hear a pointed F#CK YOU, and then a shot, I also heard a nice whiz within inches of my right ear. My response was to drop to the ground and pull my legally concealed Taurus PT22. Well the problem is it got stuck on the edge of the pocket, and I couldn't get it all the way out immediately. Thankfully they noticed the flash of the brightly nickel plated gun and then ran faster then I have ever seen anyone run. Thank the Lord they didn't keep shooting. Lesson? Make sure you can get to your gun, and walking a short distance to the store to get snacks isn't always a better solution then driving. Now I drive my truck, screw walking. I can always floor my truck and drive it off the road behind some trees or something which will give me a few extra seconds to get my ass ready in case they come lookin to make sure their point is heard and force me to do something that won't do either of us any good.

I have never had a gun pulled on me or been shot at. However, on one occasion , a criminal pulled a knife on me, and attempted to stab me in the throat during an attempted "robbery"(he demanded money). He missed me completely, and I managed to fight him off. I was unarmed at the time.

My girlfriend (now wife) and I were sunning beside a pond when I looked up to find a park ranger pointing her Glock at me. She appeared to be nervous and asked if I minded if she searched my backpack. I told her to go ahead, and asked what the problem was. She said there was a report of a man hiking with a gun.

A man hiking with a gun in the middle of the wilderness. Oh, the horror of it :scrutiny: This particular location is a one-hour hike from the nearest road.

At the time I didn't feel particularly threatened. Looking back on the event with the benefit of LE training, I should have lectured her for drawing her weapon on me (later - after she calmed down, of course). I was unarmed, on my back, practically asleep, and wearing only shorts. She even remarked that she didn't think I was the "suspect" because I was accompanied by "the female" (her words).

Drawing a weapon was totally inappropriate in this case.

I was mugged at gunpoint back in 1997.

This was the straw that broke the camel's back for me to change my attitudes about firearm ownership.

I grew up in a very hippified, pascifist, anti-gun family, and was rather anti-gun by default until I left home. I ended up becoming neutral on the issue until the mugging incident.

I was shot in the forearm when I was 15. It was a drive-by. I wasn't a gangbanger when it happened, but I joined a gang afterwards. I saw several freinds get shot in front of me (one died) I saw other shootings as well. I got out of that life 17 years ago, and still have disturbing dreams of those few years.

Been shot at and missed. was at a party in a part of (unnamed city) that I knew I should not be. I went out on the front porch for a smoke, and noticed a car driving by VERY SLOWLY. I kept an eye on them as they hit the end of the block, and turned around. as they went by a second time, windows were rolled down and muzzles came out. I was off that porch and behind the AC unit before I really figured out what the h3ll was going on. still have no idea what happened to the cigarette. The dumb gangbangers only managed to bust out some windows anyway. That was a lot of years ago. And that was enough for me.

The closest I ever got was at the age of 16 or 17 or so. I wasn't so much 'threatened' per se, but involved a friend being very stupid. Basically I was at a friend's house it was late and we were both fairly drunk. He had his grandpa's empty Walther in hand like a toy. For reasons I'm still not sure of to this day he pointed it at me and started muttering something. Then he pulled the trigger. Once again, it was empty (appearently, since I was not shot) but still extremely stupid for anyone at any age to do. In retrospect, its not the same as being actively threatened but it still leaves me pretty angry when people act that irresponsibly.

One time about 14-15 years ago I had a handgun pointed in my face.

I went to a woman's house for a little *cough* visit. I hadn't been to the address before, and I knocked on the wrong door (10:30 pm). The guy who answered the door pointed the gun right in my face and asked what I wanted. I about soiled myself. This was before I was a gun nut.

Also been dusted with pellets many times at hunting preserves, in duck blinds, on post when driving fields and at impromptu clays ranges. I don't consider this being "shot".

Several years ago at a party that I shouldn't have been at. There was another party on down the dirt road and when it was over the guys that were leaving decided they were going to crash the one I was at. The owner of the place told them to leave several times and finally about 5 guys bigger than me told them to get the heck outta dodge and they drove about 50 yards down the road. Then they stopped and fired several shots from an AK. Evidently, they just picked the wrong folks to mess with, about 50 shots rang out right after that and their car was disabled and they got the crap beat out of them before the sheriff showed up. I gave my statement and that was about the last time I saw any of those folks as I moved on to a higher caliber of friend.

1990 - approximately 30 miles north of San Antonio. Girlfriend wakes me up at 3:30 AM and says a man is looking through our window - and he's carrying a gun. I met him on the otherside of the bedroom window. I was buck naked, pointing a 12 Gauge pump and endowed with "Morning Wood".

A pi$$ed-off Texan, a 12 Gauge...and a hard-on. Ya' just don't mess with this.

The guy left.

Once in the early 70s, after just getting out of the hospital (burn victim on crunches), I was sitting outside of a local pool hall (with crunches near by), when the cops came up to me in their vehicles gun's drawn and pointed at me. Brought me down to the station for questioning. They said/thought I just robbed a conviencence store about a mile or so away from where I was sitting at. They locked me up. Some friends came down to pick me up within a hour or so. My one friend that came along with me, was pissed big time for what they did to me. The people that came to pick me up were also pretty pissed at the cops. I think they file charges against the police station, I don't really know. This was a BIG JOKE to everyone that lived in the area, the police where not too welcome around the area again.

Only shot once on a woman's couch by her X-husband, with a pos .22 revolver in the right shoulder. She had been divorced for three years, evidently he was stalking her. Ever since I carry a G32, and got the CCW when legal.

Couple of others from the military so they don't count.
