I've been reading this forum now, sporadically. How about a "reality check" about your personal environment, your defensive skills (particularly unarmed, physical self-defense), and the probability that some of the scenarios imagined herein are actually going to happen to you?

Go to the Cold Steel web site and read up on the utility of a folding "pocket knife" for use in defense. The numbers come in really low. Same rating for "neck knives" on chains, boot knives . . . Maybe better than a rock, but mostly they're intended for cutting lines, materials. They're not very useful in hand-to-hand combat.

There's a thread herein about "unarmed defense against a gun." As a hypothetical here, you have the option to de-escalate the confrontation and escape or let the aggressor escape. That's your best tactic. "Kung-fu" is going to get you killed.

Drop by the local Sheriff's Office or Fire/Rescue department and ask someone in charge about emergency evacuation plans. There's a comprehensive plan in place for your region -- and it doesn't include "bug out bags" or "tactical wheelbarrows." Actually, there are plans for those with the bug out bag / tactical wheelbarrow mind set. The plan entails suppression, compliance with emergency crews, and use of lethal force to ensure compliance. In a "war zone" you're going to encounter "warriors" -- United States armed forces, and para-military law enforcement / emergency rescue crews.

If you're adopting the Rambo strategy, you'll be viewed as a "security threat." There's a reality check that needs to be considered.

Get yourself a copy of James Thurber's Walter Mitty. Spend some time trying to attain a balance between reality and the paramilitary scenario you envision as being part of your "preparedness plan."

I don't live in a war zone. Having lived in a war zone, I appreciate the difference. For those herein who fixate on "war zone ideation" -- tune into TruTV and have a look at what happens when the plans of armchair warriors run into the reality of unforeseen events.

I'm not "trolling" here. I'm serious as hell about this. I read some of these posts and expect any day now I'll be reading about these people in the obituaries or see them on the "bleeding lead story" for the Six O-Clock News.
