Have you ever FOUND a gun?

Back in the 80's. On the way to work (rural area near my home) early one morning I noticed "something" on the edge of the road. Backed up....found what was left of a .22 Marlin semi rifle. It was just like the one we had as kids. Stock shattered, barrel bent and totally unrepairable.

I gathered all the pieces I could find and put them in the trunk anyway. I knew my brother still had the one from our childhood.

Called the brother. Told him about the find and asked if he wanted it for parts.

The conversation went like this:

"Where'd you find it?"

"Over by Donald's house...on the way to work." (Donald was his dog trading/rabbit hunting buddy)

"Damn, that is my rifle....musta left it on the bumper after me and Donald were shooting targets. I wondered where it was"

:)

Yes. About 20 years ago our father was deer hunting by himself during the week. As the story goes...He shot a nice 3 point, (western count) that ran off and managed to make it around a small hill. When our father made it around the hill the buck was lying there dead. So were 2 hunters, rifles and backpacks next to some bushes . One was already putting a tag on it. Our father walked up to them and told them it was his deer. They said no it wasn't. After a few more words our father left and drove home. When I got home my wife said my dad had called and to call him back. I called him and got the story. I called my other 3 brothers and went to pickup our father. We went up in 2 pickups to the scene of the, "crime". Needless to say we (sons) were in the mood for inflicting a serious beatdown on those dudes. We got to the place where they had gutted the deer out and started following the drag marks. About 2 hundred yards from the start we came up on a spot where we could tell they had stopped to rest. Lo and behold lying there was a pistol in a holster. It was an almost brand new 44 Mag Redhawk. At that point our father said forget it let's go back. Well we did but, we drove around to several deer camps looking for the jerks but , never saw them. We still have the pistol and one of my brothers named it, "Deer pistol".

Never found a gun but an acquaintance once found a Rohm .22 revolver by some railroad tracks and ended up keeping it. I also once heard of a guy buying a used pick-up and finding a revolver under the seat.

I found a 44 carbine deer hunting a few years back. I lived in a small community in Minnesota at the time so I saw who owned it. I gave it the local DNR to give back to her. I didn't know where she lived. It turned out it was her husbands before he passed away. The lady loved hunting she would grab a little fold up chair walk 100 yards to the top of the hill and sit out the day by her self. she was albeit 65 years old.

I "found" a 32 revolver in the hand of a mugger in Chicago once. He ran away after I took it from him. I figured he didn't want it anymore so I gave it to the police.
