Have you ever opened a new handgun/longarm on Xmas morning?

Many, many years ago, my dad gave me a Remington Fieldmaster (.22lr pump-action rifle) for Christmas. It was withheld until the end of all other presents, in the manner of Ralphie's Red Ryder in A Christmas Story. (I did not shoot it in the backyard, though.) It's far from my favorite or most-shot gun, but I'll never part with it.

Yep, sure have. Guns are good gifts.

I got my dad a PMR-30 this year. He doesn't lurk the forum or even know I'm here, so my secret is safe.

New? No.
But I've gotten 2 in the past.

One of them is a .22 mag that my brother gave me when I was 9 years old. My dad had broken his back in a car accident and couldn't work for a long time. There wasn't very much money to spare and my christmas wasn't looking good gift wise. I know that's not the most important thing, but at that age, of course it bothered my parents. My brother wraps up a box of .22 mag ammo. I open it dumbfounded and he hands the rifle to me. He loved that gun and it means a lot to me. There aint enough money to buy it and you can believe that.

The other one was a Savage 20-gauge pump that I got a few years later from my parents. I found it at a local pawn shop for $99 and I drooled over it for a year. Well, dad went by and got it for me. 20 years later, it still lives in the corner by my bed loaded up with 3" mag buckshot. Its another one that will be mine until I take a dirt nap.

A "new" gun for Xmas? No, I haven't. Well, other than BB guns as a kid.

But when I was 10-12 age, my oldest brother gave me his old Remington 514 .22 for Christmas, a hand-me-down and certainly not new. But I'm 57 now and still have it! It's still very accurate, and I recently stripped the stock and refinished it. Turns out it was actually a very pretty piece of walnut hiding under that brown finish, whatever it was. Now I want to have all the metal reblued too.

Only once.

It was the first firearm I ever personally owned--an H&R .410 single shot shotgun. My dad gave it to me on Christmas morning and that afternoon he took me bird hunting. First shot I made took a quail. I think I was 8 or 9 years old at the time. I don't remember whatever happened to that gun but I still have the memory of it and that Christmas day.

24 years ago, my late father gave me my first gun..... A beautiful Wingmaster 870. I was 16.

Only once did I get a firearm gifted to me on Christmas. Years ago my brother gave me a very nice Swiss K31 rifle. I was stunned in disbelief, happy, and yet I had no idea what a K31 was at the time.

I still have that rifle and it is in the "always keep - never sell" category of my collection.

Several, mainly from my mother in law. She knows I love guns and has bought me over the years a: Polish Tokarov, CZ82, Glock 17, S&W .38 spl and various others... She is a sweetheart.

Well, yes, but I bought it for myself and gave it to my wife to give back to me. :) Each of my kids, on the other hand, have received guns as gifts for Christmas or other special occasions.

when I turned 14 (1990) I got a Marlin 25MN .22 mag bolt action. I was in complete disbelief. i actually picked the model number out from a marlin catalog and put it on my wish list. my folks got me the exact gun! it has killed countless groundhogs and God knows what else

Within the last 3 or 4 years, I thoughtfully and kindly and generously spared my wife the bother of shopping for my Christmas present - not once, but twice - by buying a gun and having her give it to me for Christmas. Both were Smith and Wessons, one a 22A, the other an SD40ve. I love both.

But I think that method of giving myself new handguns has run it's course.

When I was around 12 I got a Remington 1100 20 ga that dad bought at a hard ware store that was getting out of the gun business . He paid $125 for it and always said he should of bought a truck load of them. That was over 40 years ago and still have it and looks almost new.

Why yes, as a matter of fact I have...twice. Not counting of course the ones I gave myself:D

The first one was about 1983 and was BM (Before Marriage)...smart girl! Christmas morning found a Ruger 77 in .270 Winchester under my tree. Topped it with a Leupold 3X9 and have had a lot of success with it over the years.

Second one was this year. Was working at the LGS on the 24th when we traded for a 4" S&W 629-4...in the box...unfired. Told the owner that I had dibs on it & then just set it in the back as we were too busy to fool with personal sales...figured I would take care of it after Christmas. We closed at 4:00 & sometime after that my wife found the owner still there & asked him if he knew of anything I might like. So less than a day after I set it aside I am sitting on my couch unwrapping it! As soon as I saw the box I knew exactly what it was...but could not wrap my head around the fact that it was under the tree. Stunned is an understatement! She is sneaky like that...and a keeper for sure:cool:

Made the mistake once of giving her a gun for Christmas...a nice little 20 ga. double. She looked at it like it was a snake:scrutiny: Thank God I had the sense to stuff each barrel with a piece of jewelry! Worked well....

A few times, I have had that wonderful experience. My first BB gun as a kid, like many others was a Crossman 760. I loved that thing. Then when I was older my wife bought me a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 magnum. Another year I actually got a Red Ryder BB gun. :D

Guns are great Christmas gifts.

Santa gave me permission to get my 77/44 carbine out of Lay-A-Way. I'll be picking it up tomorrow or Monday. I'll post pics and a range report soon. It is a used camo version with a Bushnell Banner 3:9x40. That will be coming off, and an AimPoint or a Bushnell 3200 1.5:4.5x32 will be put on, and the Banner will be used for my Marlin Model 60. I like to have a smaller reticle for a .22 LR, but I like to have a 6x scope on the Model 60. I feel that 6 power is what works best for me in .22 LR shooting and hunting.

Christmas morning, 1957, I opened a package from my parents containing a Winchester Model 67 .22 rifle. Best Christmas ever! I was fourteen years old then and I still have that little .22. Some Christmas morning in the near future, a certain grandson will find that same Winchester under the tree-and I'll wager that he will always recall that Christmas as being the best ever.

Couple years ago my wife bought me a Stag AR15. This year she bought me a Marlin 336 complete with extra brass, once again totally unexpected. I make sure to buy her nice Christmas presents.
