Have you ever tried this at home?

I've often seen things on one gun show or another that says something to the effect of:
"The shots you are about to see are performed by experts and should not be attempted. DON'T try this at home!"

I got to thinking about this one a bit before I posted my partial list...

Have you ever...
Thrown your AK in a mudpuddle then shook out the excess water in the barrel and emptied the magazine... just to see if Mikhail was right?
Shot two handguns at two targets or one target at the same time?
Fired a shotgun one-handed?
Tossed eight clays in the air and nailed more than five? Tom Knapp, here I come!:D
Cut a card, lit a match, mashed a potato, scrambled an egg, or popped an aspirin with a .22?
Shot the primer of a shotshell that was nailed to the target post 50 feet away with a .30-06? (O.K. I didn't see that on TV but I was like 11 or 12:D)
Shot at an old junk car before sending it to the scrapyard just to prove that A) Bullets won't spark when they hit a car? B) There are precious few places a bullet won't go clean through to other side?

Many years ago, a good friend of mine got bitten by the gunbug, (I don't know how it happened, honest:rolleyes:) He got a few extra bucks and picked up "A cool old army rifle! You gotta see it and tell me all about it!" It turns out it's an old Italian Carcano and he paid way too much for it. After making him promise not to shop without me, I immediately blurt out that we should set up the Kennedy shot at an abandoned quarry. We were approximately 25 feet up one enbankment shooting from a solid rest, at a range of 250 feet from an area of the pit where we hooked a homemade trailer with three targets to an old radio-controlled car...
It wasn't perfect, but it did raise some curious questions when we started searching for 6.5mm at swaps and shows...

Sooooo, ever tried anything at home?

Well I shoot Cowboy action some, so when practicing once I tried what is called "Gunfighter Style".

That is when you draw both pistols and shoot alternating between them.
I was slow & it was hard but I did OK.

I'd like to shoot a card in half but I don't think I have enough ammo :p

Great post. I have done a few on the list, but you gave me an idea for todays project!

By the way...

I know this forum is dedicated to "responsible" firearms ownership, so I must say that I tried to use as much safety as possible when doing these stunts.
:scrutiny:

Here's a few more:

I've tipped countless handguns on their side and emptied the magazine.

At the quarry, me and another friend once did a few "drive-by" shooting scenarios just to see how a gangbanger does it.

Fired nails and also a handfull of gravel from a replica blunderbuss.

I had family friend that worked at the town dump. We once shot up a bunch of empty propane bottles. The biggest was a 20 pound tank. (the kind from an outdoor gas grille. The little ones, like from a camp lantern or a hand-held torch, launch like a rocket if you hit them just right.

I've done the second and last. The results of the two-gun pistolero bit weren't anything to write home about, though I did hit both targets.

A friend had a ranch upon which there was the hulk of a 1956 Ford sedan. We shot that old car with everything from .22LR to .375 H&H. The engine was long gone, so we didn't get a chance to see what the serious ammo would do to a V8 block, but it was a lot of fun.

yeh, some of them. shot through a chevy truck, vaporized an orange with my 300 win mag @ 100 yds, exploded a watermelon with the 357, tossed my 45 in a mud puddle to see if it would shoot filthy dirty-it did, shot 2 handguns at one target at the same time, done a lot of "penetration testing" you would be suprised how much stuff most bullets would go through!

A "professional shooter" is a person that gets paid to shoot. Go to work and clock in, tell the boss you forgot something at home and you will be right back. Stop at the range and try some of these stunts because at that time you will be getting paid. So tech. you are a professional. (Just don't get any afternoon delight, don't want to get busted for hooking)

Shot the primer of a shotshell.

I've done that one but couldn't really tell if the shotshell exploded fully or not. It really "blew-up" but, then again, I shot it with a .30-06 150 gr. Silver-Tip so there really wasn't much left to examine!!!

I have a buddy that had an old junk car years ago. he took the A/C condenser out of it one day and got the notion to take it with us to the range. He shot it with a 12 ga. not much damage. then with a .22. same results. after all was said and done, it was pretty uneventful and boring. A/C condensers on cars are pretty solid.

the most exciting thing I ever shot at was milk jugs filled with water and a few drops of food coloring in them. red, green, blue, yellow. my 7mm mag would make the milk jugs spray water big at 100 yrds. looked neat.
