Have you ever walked in to a gun store and bought a gun immediately - Love at First Sight?

I can't think of ever doing that for me. I know what I want when I'm buying and pretty focused on it. The wife has done the "love at first sight thing" a couple of times though. We still have a pretty Beretta 20ga over/under in the safe that's never been fired. She thought she might want to tag along on my weekly 3 day pheasant hunts. Bought back in the early 2000's.

Why yes, yes I have.---------

Ok, yes. It was a parkerized 1911-A1 with much improved sights for $359.00 brand new that had just gone on display.
The owner said, "I knew you'd buy that the minute I put it in the case."
I've never been sorry.

I've had a few love at first sight experiences in gun shops. But I don't recall ever making an immediate purchase. I usually have to do some thinking/research before I decide. I have missed out on a couple of good buys over the years because of that.

Guilty, although I try to do my due diligence beforehand. I was at Cabela's to pick up a new M&P 9, and they had a couple dozen M91/30s on the rack out on the floor. I had never been interested, but found a Tula that had good wood and a tight muzzle. It was too easy to add to the 4473, and although the $129 purchase did not include accessories, I have never regretted it.

Twice, because I could add it to a 4473 I already was processing for a well-thought out purchase.
My first AR on the night before Biden was elected. Added to a 10/22 purchase.
A BHP mk iii I noticed as they were processing a 4473 for my first Glock.

I have and it never ended well.

I don't own a single one of my "Love at first sight" guns currently and I'm pretty sure I sold them all at a loss.

That’s exactly how I got my CZ527 American! At Academy in Houston, but mine is a 7.62x39. I agree with the OP it is definitely a cool little carbine, especially the set trigger and mini Mauser bolt.

Was headed into the shop to grab a .45 LC Italian job, Uberti, cus I was sick of waiting for a Ruger Vaquero or Colt to show up. I had the .45 LC fever pretty bad. And there she was. I think I was stuttering when I said that one, that one!!

Neato! Whats the ornate metal orb on the desk?

I think my favorite of many impulse buys was going to the LGS to finish a transfer (bought a gun online) and came home with two guns.

The internet gun was a SIG 556, which I have turned into all but a Sig 551. Gray, green furniture, everything. I got it in no small measure as an 80s action movie gun.
On the wall was... a Galil. Same, a Golani Sporter (Century import) but the previous owner had already done 90% of the bringing it back to spec work, so it has night sights, ARM wood, etc. For like $800. And also same: an 80s action movie dream gun, so sorted that part of the collection well in one day.

Yes walked into a shop, wife was getting something and I spied something on the wall. I ask is that a daisy? Yes it is. Can I see it please, sure. Is this the price? Yes, I will take it.

As close to mint as can be. I will never shoot it as well, just so close to prefect.

You're not missing much- they dont shoot for snot, lol. My Dad has one that is best used as a john boat paddle.
Minty examples are getting rare, though. They are actually aquiring some collector interest- bewilderingly so, IMO.

"Roger that"💥. Not in a shop, but in a gun Show. Had totally forgotten about these HK-91 clones until inside the show in Jackson TN, February 2022.

I had always totally ignored "Battle Rifles" (.308 versions) only due to the simple fact that .308 ammo has always cost more than 7,62x39 ammo.

Went home from the gun show with nothing, and ordered a " nib" PTR-91 from Gunbroker.
I was totally "mission-oriented", one might say, somewhat like the (old video) of the 'target-fixated' A-7 pilot who flew straight into his ground with no overall situational awareness.

The PTR-91 at that show was not exactly nib (& no box etc present), but he wanted the same new price for his slightly-used rifle. "mm...Bye-bye!".

I rarely go into a gun store with anything specific in mind. I just walk around and look until something screams take me home.

I remain truly impressed that so many THR members are so incredibly disciplined with regard to impulse control.

I guess we know who those are that will not be much fun at parties (or have interesting or unique things to share at the range).

The Ruger Vaquero in 45LC polished stainless steel. If this gun does not make your heart skip a beat upon first sight, you are no American and should renounce your citizenship. This work of art is the physical embodiment of the spiritual nature of our inalienable right to bear arms. Yes, I am getting carried away, but come on man, look at that modern six gun.

This “love at first sight” is a real problem when you work at a gun store and the owner gives you a ridiculously low price on a “makes my heart flutter” firearm that has just come in as a trade or buy.
