People like that are a waste of oxygen. I normally just stare at them for a long time then just walk away. If they continue to verbalize I calmly tell them ,"I'm sorry, I don't speak idiot." And I continue to walk away.

I work at a large University that draws from Philadelphia, New York and New Jersey. We have more than our share of blathering, Irrational Antis.

When they had a Student Activity fair last fall, and I helped my buddy who coaches the rifle team man their table for a few hours, I got to meet some of them. Did I mention that they were irrational? Our rifle team shoots precision air rifle and smallbore. I had one woman whining on and on about how "this sort of club was highly inappropriate in a college setting" and that "the thought of training college students to become ruthless killers is simply appalling." Did I mention irrational? Sometimes you just have to grin and ignore it.

There are such people on both ends of the spectrum. I find it's best just to keep a straight face and let them talk, then start laughing hysterically. I'd rather save the debate for people who seem to be capable of something at least approaching what could be described as reasoning.

Cornman-----Olberman , Randi Rhodes just to name 2. There are weird people on both sides. And do not forget Rev. Wright, Louis the Seperatist and many others. ;)

I've never had anyone puke on me about guns, but religion, abortion and politics is a different matter. Those discussions have gotten real heated.

I'd just as soon not run into "Zack the Commie" !

I AM A TERRIBLE PERSON FOR KILLING BAMBIE

P.S. I just read in one of my gun mags that the #1 item to hurt hunting and animal conservation/control was the Disney movie, "Bambi". It said an entire generation grew up with the misconcieved notion that hunters were evil people and all of the animal kingdom was pure & sweet and all of them have huge blue eys with tears in them. That generation grew to be voters and have since reeked havoc on hunters, gun owners and the animals that they naively & ignorantly are trying to "protect".

About a year ago I was working in Manhattan I was on the way to the office and was stymied by a very vocal and PITA protest going on outside a Red Lobster restaurant. Somehow they had the tied it in with Canadian practice of clubbing baby seals.

So I'm trying to get past and this harpy keeps shoving a poster of a skinned baby seal in my face and screaming about boycotting Red Lobster.

Eventually I get a touch annoyed and say

"I'm terribly sorry madam, I don't understand the problem with baby seals......they've always tasted just like veal to me."

NY cop behind me on donut patrol snorts his coffee out of his nose and I wander past .

I usually ask if they eat meat, and if so, if they know how livestock are raised. Then I ask them which is more humane, harvesting a wild animal, or raising it expressly for slaughter, KNOWING how the living conditions of those animals are. They can see the point, even if they don't want to concede the argument. Most either admit I have a point, or change the topic.
I like my brother's similar tactic:
"Ever seen a feed lot or a chicken farm?
Ever seen the Black Hills National Forrest?
Which would you rather eat?"

I have a hard time believing that there are many people like you are describing. I have never heard a "liberal" Talk in such a manner. I have heard many times conservitives pick fights with all sorts of decent people however. Even in the media you will not find a O'reily or mike Savage equivilent. Liberals just are not full of hate like too many conservitives can be IMHO. The very fact that you are saying "It took everything in me not to completely go off my rocker and kill him." is not a too friendly.

I invite you to view many liberal blogs to see all the hatred.

While you're at it, take a trip to Lawrence, KS home to the University of Kansas.
Lawrence antiwar type liberals have a reputation of physically assaulting KS Army Guardsmen when they can be caught alone.

I, too, am a terrible person for killing bambie. But she and her sister sure tasted good.
Granted, it has been around 45 years or so since I saw the movie as a youngster, but IIRC, wasn't Walt Disney's Bambi a buck? :scrutiny:

Conservatives angry? No were not angry or violent. It's just that after many years of getting kicked in the nards for being "conservative", the conservatives are getting fed up with it, and are standing up for themselves. So all you liberals can just suck it up, after all, liberals helped us conservatives, make us what we are becoming, even more conservative.
I spent most of my life thinking i was a liberal, and came to realise just a few years ago I was really a libertarian.
I spent most of my life thinking I was a conservative, only to realize I was a Constitutionalist.

Liberals are some of the most narrow minded people I have ever met.

By definition, narrow minded people cannot be liberal and vice versa. You've probably run into narrow minded people pretending to be liberal. But then, you've likely run into narrow minded people pretending to be Constitionalists or libertarians, as well. :)

the fox is the finder and the stink is behind her

My frustration with that kind of arrogancy is that I find it so perplexing that society in general has devolved into such one sided PC.

What he said, would be under any other circumstaces, called "hate speech!"

-Except that Christians, hunters, gun owners, veterans, etc. are the hater's.

Convoluted.

Unfortunately I have one at my school, read my signature. That was our discussion while at lunch. But guess whos winning

What did your lunch companion have for lunch? And had they ever eaten yearling deer, he or she would have been hugging a tree from inside your tree stand with you next hunting season.

Cornman, I don't know where you've been, but you obviously don't have much knowledge of the hatred the liberals have for gun owners and the Second Amendment.

"I have never heard a "liberal" Talk in such a manner. "

I've heard it for more years than I like to remember. I lived in Los Angeles for 35 years and the hatred of liberals for conservatives was constant. Vitriolic, rabid, and vicious!

" Even in the media you will not find a O'reily or mike Savage equivilent. "

Ever heard of Alec Baldwin, or Rosie O'Donnell, or Bill Mahar, or... well, why go on?

I still see it just as blatently and rawly each day when I check into a site for professional writers, those who write virtually every single thing you see in the flicks and on teeeveee. You can not imagine the hatred vomited out by almost all the "good left wing libs" on that site, against anyone who is not in their ideological corner -- and not just about firearms, either.

For example, just a few days ago, one writer who also happens to be a writing professor at a prestigious university, posted "Another Proud Conservative Speaks Out," and then pasted the story of the whacked out bunghole who shot the people in the Universalist Church. To him, and almost all other Hollywood writers, "conservatives" are insane murderers who shoot anyone who does not agree with them.

I've had many experiences with enraged "liberals" who were near violence on discussing the firearms issue. In fact, at one organized debate regarding Prop. 15 -- anti-gun proposition that would have banned handguns in Calif., and eventually long guns -- after the debate in which I was a participant, a young yuppie left wing liberal woman actually came up to me and deliberatley spat on me because I was against the Proposition.

I did nothing, other than take out my handkerchief and wipe it off, but pointed it out to other "liberals" and some "fence sitters" there and noted that this is the type person who wants to confiscate our firearms.

So.... as I said, don't know where you've been, but there is no end of "liberals" who are filled with rabid hatred against "conservatives," especially on the firearms issue.

Dirt worshipper

As a dirt worshipping treehugging pagan hippie feak, I guess I should be anti gun and share the attitudes of these wonderful liberal people. I do not.

I believe strongly in taking personal responsibility for all aspects of my life. I have raised my daughter to be the same way. We do not wait for God, Allah, Jesus or anyone else to provide for us or to protect us. We take that responsibilty upon ourselves.

These fools are the same ones that always prattle on about the mysterious "they". I have heard over and over "they"should do something about whatever the issue is. It is never "we" or I WILL do something about it.

Their anger is a result of fear and a desire to duck their responsibility. It shows a lack of maturity or the lack of plain old common sense.

I had a very liberal woman working for me who questioned my daily carry. She said a number of times, "Well. If someone goes to break in my house,I will just call the police." I explained to her that in the jurisdiction where I wored, the average response time is 4 minutes. I then(with her permission)place my hand on her shoulder and started timing . At one minute she started gettin uncomfortable, two minutes brought squiming, three minutes brought her close to panic and at 4 minutes tears were in her eyes. I moved my hand and quietly told her that wher she lived, she would be lucky to get a response in 15 minutes. Two days later she asked me to sign as a reference for her on her pistol permit application and to teach her to shoot..Conversion is a wonderful thing.

I actually had a nice suprise on friday. One of the social service workers was in my office, and then asked if had moved into the old schoolhouse (I live in school that has been converted into apartments) and I was having a nice conversation with her, and she asked if I had any photos of my apartment, and I relized that the only photos I had where photos of my guns.

I was expecting this type of reaction.

However she then asked me if I knew about guns, and then it turns out that she has been carrying a revolver when she walks her dogs in case she encounters a mountian cat or rabid animal, human or otherwise, but the revolver was large and heavy. She said someone recommended a "Swedish company that makes light handguns, that are common, and are really light" and I relized she ment Kel-tec as the owner/designer is swedish, and also pointed out that there was lightweight nice revolvers out there, and she thanked me a ton for the help.

that was a nice experince! Was expecting something completly else!

I spent most of my life thinking I was a conservative, only to realize I was a Constitutionalist.

I spent most of my life realizing that making statements such as I am part of a particular political clique is limiting and silly as it implies that I believe in all the rhetoric of a given group.
