I'm wanting to get a conversion revolver to play with BP cartridges (and also finally have a revolver to shoot smokeless loads indoors).

But I've only got ~$500 to play with.

I love the style of the old open top colts. I already have a walker and an 1860. I cant touch the 1860, but I can have a kirst konverter installed on the walker if I want, but I dunno if I SHOULD. If not that I'm considering a Cimarron Man-With-No-Name 1851 in .38spl. I like the idea of cheap .38spl plinking loads, but its hard to wander away from those big ole .45 colt loads.

I would keep the Walker as cap n' ball and get an 1851 Richards-Mason or an 1872 Open Top Navy. I like the fact the '72 has a rear sight on the barrel.

I vote for the gated conversion! Nothing with more "cool" than your own conversion. You may find the Walker with the conversion may be your most accurate revolver ever (I know my Dragoons are!! )!
The barrel has the correct twist.
