Indeed. Check our firethorn bushes, AKA Pyracantha. Planted under a window and kept trimmed, it's the next best thing to razor wire. I had a very overgrown Pyracantha bush behind my house when I bought it. Removing it was NOT fun. The thorns are close to an inch long and needle sharp. They went through heavy leather work gloves like I wasn't wearing anything. Anybody trying to bull his way through a firethorn hedge would be shredded.

Should I lose sleep about a computer that was outdated 3 months after I bought it 3 years ago or a TV that doesn't even work? Do they want my crappy old coffee pot or my $30 radio? Possessions are easy to replace. A home security system would cost me more than all that stuff put together.
Most expensive thing in my house is my dog. I've got as much money invested in that animal as I do my guns but if someone steals her then I don't want her anyway. What good is a guard dog if she can't even guard herself?
So far she only tolerates strangers if I do though and thankfully doesn't argue about that. Daughter informed me yesterday my Neo is a "prehistoric animal" hahaha. Amazing power and swiftness, no recognition of pain. With a mouth big enough to wrap around a basketball her preferred target is the stomach. She'd rip a person's guts out before they even knew this 140lb aerial acrobatic's feet left the ground.
In my situation the only thing worth protecting is people. I could have an impregnable home but all you'd need to do is wait for me to open the door to get in. Like most people I run on a schedule and am predictable.
I believe a home security system could mislead others into believing I have something valuable and they'll rise to the challenge. I would not feel safer knowing I've increasing my appeal to badguys. I feel secure knowing I can destroy those who want to cause harm. I live in a peaceful area now but not always. I've maintained habits aquired at a time when my aquaintances were not very respectable people. Several who knew me back then have gone to prison. Guess none of them felt lucky trying me on for size?
