A while back, I picked up a 525rd brick of Remington Golden Bullet HP .22lr for ~$9.50, and I've hardly ever (knock on wood) had problems with .22 ammo in my Marlin 60 except for this brand/type. I'm getting FTFs, FTEs, and on occasion a FTF with a partial extract with the casing dented rather harshly. :what:

I'm hoping it's not the Marlin... I keep that sucker clean (as with all my guns), so that's probably not the case. I've run PMC, Federal, and a couple other companies through it on previous occasions, with few/no problems at all. Anyone else run into this?

Also, my SAR-1 is having some problems with jamming, a problem I thought AKMs were immune to. Everything'll fire fine, but when things begin to heat up, this is what happens:

Scenario A:
Empty case is extracted; instead of flying off to the right, case is ejected into the action and comes to rest just above the left feed lip of the magazine. Gun jams. I :cuss: .

Scenario B:
Empty case is extracted and flies off to the right. New cartrige is only chambered 1/2 way. I :scrutiny: .

Scenario C:
Empty case is extracted; ends up inside the action, but facing laterally (usually with the primer end facing out the ejection port). New round is partially stripped off the mag, but jammed into the base of the feed ramp; it's alrady caught on the extractor. When I pull back on the bolt handle, the empty case drops out of the gun, but the live round somehow gets trapped back by the fire control group. I then :what: :uhoh: and :banghead: .

Like I stated earlier, I keep 'em clean, so it shouldn't be that (unless I'm somehow doing a really bad job of cleaning). What gives?

P.S. Mods, if this belongs in the Rifle forum, please move it there... I figure this as an ammo problem...

this is My opinion only, but Remington Golden bullet .22LR has to be the worst, crappiest, most god awful excuse for ammo I've ever run across. It seems to work fine in revolvers but anything that actually mechanically chambers a round from a magazine has FTEs, FTFs, and any other Failure To that I can think of. on the partially chambered or jammed rounds, have you noticed that the bullet seems to not be seated properly and ends up at an angle to the casing? It's great stuff to practice emergency drills with, whether you want to or not.

I'm not sure if was the same model of Remington, but my Browning Buckmark was very unhappy with the one box of Remington .22LR I tried it on. On a couple of rounds after feeding, the trigger was still locked as if the safety were on (I didn't figure out what was wrong at the time, but probably the slide wasn't fully into battery). At least one round failed to fire (I checked the casing - it had a good dent where the firing pin struck). The two types of Federal .22LR I tried, on the other hand, worked like a dream. I don't plan to buy any more Remington .22, and if I were you I'd try another brand. If the gun works fine with a different brand, then it's probably the Remington ammo's problem.

Copy that. I guess it's back to Federal for me.

Ah well. :)

I also figured out what was wrong with the AK-- somehow, an unusually large amount of fouling ended up deep inside the bolt, right next to the extractor. I cleaned it a TON today (spent about 2 hours), spraying the bolt with fouling solvent, and using some rather unorthodox tools (dentist's picks, toothbrushes, floss, compressed air, etc.) and got the thing looking absolutely brand-spankin'-new.
