Hawaii 5-0 speed loading intro scene

Gotta say I love this thread; hope others have more to share with us. Very good for laughs.

I agree, but the trouble is that some mod felt the need to put it in the handgun section rather than leave it in the more viewed general section.
This happens too often here on THR in my opinion, and takes away from some of the enjoyment we might otherwise experience.

About all I remember about the original 5-0 is the theme song and the hula dancer.

I got my daughter to use the theme song in her ridden dressage routine last year at the county fair. She loved it, so did the judge and the crowd.

I agree as it is one of the best TV show theme songs of all time.

I'm headed back to Hawaii soon, and will enjoy eating again at Sarento's At The Top of the Ilikai, which is the hotel where Jack Lord stood and whipped around as the helicopter rushed toward him in the opening credits.

I just noticed watching one of the shows that McGarrett uses a 1st Gen Colt Detective .38 Special.

I was pretty sure I had that gun and sure enough I have one that looks exactly the same, but it does say Cobra on the barrel. I'm wondering what if any difference there is?

Are you sure it is a 1st Gen, with the ungrooved ejection rod knob, checker cylinder release and the half-moon front sight? It was more likely a 2nd Gen built from 1947-1972.

However, the revolver used in the opening title is a S&W J-frame...you can tell by the flat cylinder release.

The difference between the Cobra and the Detective Special is the alloy frame of the Cobra and, in some models, the length of the gripframe

I'd grown to dislike Hawaii 5-0 pretty quick back in the day. Everytime I visited relatives back in the 70's, I always get stopped on the street by tourists.

"Do you know where Jack Lord lives?"

:banghead:

IIRC, the Cobra and Agent were aluminum framed versions of the DS

Mine does feel pretty light for a .38 special.
I need to have it restored, but with aluminum frame, I wonder if that will pose a problem?

Here is a link to the three different handguns he used in the series.

I might have been one of those tourists you speak of. ;)

Seriously though, I think that series helped tourism beyond what anyone could measure. I was just a kid when it was on, but loved the intro & theme song. As I got older I was still hooked on the show and watched any re-run I could find because there were so many episodes(It ran for 12 years).
So when I could afford it, I went to Hawaii well before other trips I could have taken otherwise. I have been there now 4-5 times, and would love to go back again. The only reason I don't live there is it is too far away from everything.

Shouldn't the question be - "Zulu as Kono & Kam Fong as Chin Ho" why bother?
Because they didn't want folks to confuse his show's character with his on-stage persona?

What I found a bit more interesting is that Kono was always the shotgun guy in the orginal series, but Chin Ho in the current series always uses a shotgun

Wow ,Thats when TV Shows were fun to watch Hawaii 5-0,I worked Security for Brian Setzer for his Concert when they came too town ,This was the best song all Night..He is a down to earth Guy doesn't act like a big shot, I was with Him all night shadowing him and after the show he called me into his Bus shook my hand and Thanked me for watching things around Him..Those are the Kind of performers that make my job worth it...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw4C6Ikzer8

I tried to give the new show a chance, but cannot stand it.
I did give it another try recently when I saw a promo with Jack Lord in it about an episode that was being remade called Hookman with Peter Weller.
The trouble is that not only did the villain not have hooks, but they went out of their way to take a major swipe at guns, unlike the original episode.
So there is no way I will be watching any new episodes. Hopefully they will not try to redo the V is for Vashon trilogy, as that would be blasphemy.

As to this model, I had better get a speed loader as I do not see myself practicing hand loading the rotating barrel as quickly. :D
